Anyone make these? I know they have those fender style ones but i've only seen white and black. Don't want speed knobs but any top hat style with rubber grips and gold plastic would fit the bill.

Ibanez used to use knobs like that on their guitars in the '80s. I don't know if they're available or if they'd even fit.

Those aren't top hat shaped tho. (top hat, bell, witch hat, etc)

Nope, those were closer to speed knobs. http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b149/dspellman/S3Image.jpg

Which by the way brings up another question....why the H do they call them "speed knobs". If anything the larger diameter of the grip area would actually require MORE effort to turn the same given distance.

Yes, they aren't witch hats, but the new Ibanez Suregrip III knobs (available from Ibanez as parts) are gorgeous:

The wider the radius of the knob, the easier it is to turn a shaft. Compare first gear on a bike to fifth.

What about some O-rings? If it were me I'd secure the knobs to a drill so they run true then run them against a thin file to make grooves for O-rings - three would look badass. Hold the phone - I think I'll try that :aok

Well, yeah, but that does no good unless the pot is hard to turn. But almostt all guitars have pots that will turn if you blow on them. So you want 5th gear, not first. That is unless you have an issue with the taper being too quick and tend to overshoot.

I know this isn't what you're looking for but I think the SG-1 knobs that were on original Ibanez guitars look awesome. Here's a link to a guy that reporduces them. You have to tell him you want them for either an Ibanez or Gibson as they have different shaft sizes.

Taylor does these:

The SG-1 knob is what I was thinking of. I've had an '80s Destroyer and Iceman with them. I liked them a lot.

Well, the thing is that i don't need rubber if it's a speed knob. the top hat style or whatever they're called on LP's is what i want. But because they taper it makes them hard to pull because i have pull pots for coil splitting. So if i wanted non top hat or "speed knobs" as they're called, i already have those and they are fine w/o rubber. As to the metal ones, they aren't numbered which for me is a definate no. Gotta have em numbered. Anyways, i'm just going to stick with the speed knobs i guess, or maybe try the top hats and hope i don't have issues pulling for coil tapping. Can always put the speeds back on if i do.
