So, I may have opened mouth and inserted foot but...
Local VFW is looking for someone to play solo acoustic country tunes on a Friday night. I think to myself, "self, we like country, we play guitar, we sing, why not". Got gig, first show in Jan. Now I need to build set list. They are providing PA, I just show up and rock, er, twang. How about some help in building the set list. Vocal range is low to medium high tenor. Think Garth to Keith Urbanish.

Thanks for the help!

Rob

Gotta do Friends in Low Places--whether you like it or not!

Alcohol by BP might be cool acoustically.

Red Solo Cup is getting a lot of play in the honky tonks.

Zac Brown always goes over.

If yer playin' a VFW!

A JC song or tune always goes over but I don't know what Willie songs a younger crowd would be into.

I play @ VFW down by Detroit and it's country shuffles all night long, Ray Price, etc.
What's the average age at the your local? Might want to touch on Hank, Buck, George, Willie, JC, Hag, etc. Good luck.

I suspect a little Waylon would go over well...

Thanks guys. Average age is 40-mid 70's I would guess. I figured it would be Hank, Willie and the lot but I will sneak in some more contemporary stuff as well. Been in a classic rock cover band for so long as a lead guitarist so fronting my own show, playing the songs I want to play, and more importantly, not sharing the payday with anyone...daddy likes!
Capt. do you play acoustically or full band. I'm even thinking of using some backing tracks for more uptempo stuff. If you use those, whats the best place to get them and then utilize them in the show?
