mxr flanger is pretty good. but do yourself a favour and check out the boss hi-band flanger (HF-2). only made in japan for a couple of years, and the best flanger i've had. and i've had the paul gilbert flanger, tc vortex and strymon orbit, and tried a whole lot more.

the older grey one is better, more warm and natural. The EVH seems quieter tho. With the 4 knobs you can really get a lot of different effects. The HF-2 is pretty good too but didn't have the warmth or the character. The Ibanez Swell Flanger from the 10 series is pretty good too and fairly cheap i liked it better than the FL9 I think. I had the rack MXR flanger and didn't like it

Have you tried the Hartman Analog Flanger?

the only flangers i've tried is the tc electronic vortex and eventide modfactor. the vortex sounds more like a chorus flange and too digital sounding. the modfactor was cool but still lacked the warmth. from the videos outta the boss, ibanez, tc, and evh, the evh seems the warmest. i will check out the hartman though

No question the EVH has a nice chewy sound to it. It irritates me, though, that all MXR flangers have that "flip" at the bottom of the sweep (it goes down, slight bump up, then down and smoothly up again) which I notice at very slow sweep rates. It won't do "Barracuda"! If you don't want Barracuda, it's a great sound in a relatively small box with lots of control. If you do, the HF2 is pretty cheap at this point and sounds great!

Ehe mxr 117 (EVH without the preset button) is a fantastic flanger. Its warm but very clear and fantastic on distorted tones.
But I'd also check the rest of the classics out.
The MXR 117 (or EVH (same thing)) (best distorted tone)
the EHX DELUXE electric mistress (not the stereo or neo) (Fantastic clean tones)
the ADA
and the boss HF2
If you dont like ANY of them.... you just don't like flangers
