I'll exempt the 3 that are already in my possession, as they'd take up the first 3 spots.

Nick's #78 has always been especially alluring.
http://www.thornguitars.com/images/gallerypics/078_5.jpg

Jim's #105 is certainly a tasty little piece.
http://www.thornguitars.com/images/gallerypics/105_1.jpg

Mike's #140... I will pry it out of those fingers.
http://www.thornguitars.com/images/gallerypics/140_1.jpg

SS/1 is simply a masterpiece.
http://www.thornguitars.com/images/socal/ss_001a.jpg

And since it's not in my possession yet, I can cast a vote for the upcoming G/T in progress.

A hard decision, but I definitely have my favorites!! I have played at least 100 of them over the last 7 years or so...and I own the Octopus Garden and the Carbon Prototype which both are by far and away my favorites...but I would give up pretty much any other guitar I own for these....(I am on the Artisan List for something a LOT like Oscar)

The 2 Artisans I own...by FAR my Favorites..

I'm definitely in the minority here but I definitely do not dig some of the over the top furniture looking pieces. They look like they should be under glass and displayed like sculpture which is of no interest to me. The simpler, working man's guitars he makes though are definitely amazing looking and though I've never played one, they look intelligently designed and meticulously crafted.

I'm definitely in the minority here but I definitely do not dig some of the over the top furniture looking pieces.

You are MOST DEFINITELY in the minority, but though I think Ron's work is impeccable in every respect, I would not have ordered some of the more ornate models, personally. But I still have immense respect for the incredible craftsmanship involved.

They look like they should be under glass and displayed like sculpture which is of no interest to me.

Perhaps, but Ron built 'em to be played, each and every one. And I'd venture that nearly every one of them is played, and on a regular basis.

The simpler, working man's guitars he makes though are definitely amazing looking and though I've never played one, they look intelligently designed and meticulously crafted.

You should definitely treat yourself to playing one soon. But save your money, because once you've played one, you're gonna have to have one!

peace.

Nice thing about Ron is he'll deliver in spades no matter your requested amount of 'bling'.

My Jr90, CS-012 and AD 018 prove that IMO.

Definitely not furniture. I've sold off all but 1 PRS, and all fenders and gibsons since getting my needs met by Ron's meticulous creations.

Ornate's a matter of how you order, what you want.

This was one of my early favorites.
Limba, Rosewood, and tung oil.

No frills, just badass. Matt I made a killer spec choice with this and his swamp ash S/S/S guitar finished the same way. very little bling.

Occam and Yucca.... that's yet another reason that the Koa one I posted above is "The Highlander".

It has some crazy cool wood grain, but it's not an AAAAAAAA quilt top with rainbow binding. It's just one bad ass piece of Koa. :p

:rotflmao It does have that....

An explanation is in order. As I stated, I love Mike's Albatross so when I had Ron build me the Jr 90 I asked Mike if I could use a piece of wood from the maple that went to build his Artisan.

Love this neck! On the Fat Sound site it is listed as "Caramelized Birdseye", is that the same as Suhr and Anderson's roasted maple necks?

Well, there are so many I can't really select a top 5. I can show a few of my favorites. Some of which happen to be in my room with me now :p

My first Thorn order Artisan Master 148:

One I don't own which was the inspiration that caused me to end up buying 7 Thorns since - Navaho:

Artisan Master #27:

Always loved Artisan Master #27 with the Brian May influenced Burns pickups.

I would love that same guitar with less fancy inlay-maybe the sun signs and possibly floating Floyd Rose tremolo - Ron is that doable?

I don't think it's available on a master. Plus the master wait list has to be around 3-4 years right now.

Ditto though, that's long been a favorite of mine.

Actually that's not correct Steve. There's a wait list for Artisan Master builds.
It's quite long as I understand, but it had nothing to do with previous customer or not IIRC.

SoCal models can still be amazing depending on specs as you see in this thread, just a bitmore F influence.

My favorite is the 2Tek Hardtail R/S that I own, but it's more of a sonic workhorse than a visual treat.

Two of my favorites, visually, that have passed through the shop are both G/T models.

G/T #52's Shoreline Gold finish and solid rosewood neck created quite a stir:

And Ron's Two-Tone Caddy Greens G/T #33 was a wonderful showcase for Ron's rare, innate visionary talent:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7171/6605399407_a2281c2114_o.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/studiotwentyfour/6605399407/)

Ron used a mineral I'd never heard of called Gaspeite for his 12th fret Firesun and headstock inlays to tie the look together:

And turned me on to the wonderful, vintage Daka-Ware Knobs as shown here in Mint Green:

There are so many Thorn masterpieces that it's hard to pick a top 5...a top 50 would be more like it. But I couldn't be happier with my latest Thorn, G/T-060...it lives up to everything I was hoping for:

http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu103/daa2202/RS033_2.jpg

And although I didn't buy it new, the Junior Ninety I bought from jimmybcool (thanks, Jim) is an absolute tone monster (and, according to Ron, was used for some of the pictures on the Thorn web site):

Artisan Master # 32 has always been a favorite of mine. I "borrowed" some elements from it when coming up with the Specs for my #132. The finish work is impeccable, and the color/look is unique. If the owner is among us, consider me jealous.:D

I am the original owner, but unfortunately had to sell it a few years ago due to some financial difficulties. I miss it every day! Even my kids still talk about how much they miss my "Frost" guitar. I wonder who has it now? The birdseye in the maple neck was outrageous. The neck contour was based on an Eric Clapton signature strat and the pickups were Rio Grandes. It was a really versatile guitar. The swamp ash body had nice grain and the guitar was nicely balanced with great bell-like tone.
