View Full Version : History of the Gibson V?
I assume there must be some history of the Gibson V. I a looking for one with the more accessible neck joint like the one on the right here. Do they still make a model like it?

Not cheap but Epiphone makes 'em too.

OT- but those V's with the maestro vibrato are hot.

The better access neck join with the smaller pickguard is 1958 style, the long neck join is 1967 style. You should check out Kurt Wilson V's, his have a shaved down heel/long neck tenon like the original 58's, I don't think even Gibson builds them this way anymore. These pics are from one of mine:

Gibson only makes 58 style V's as Epiphones or Custom Shop models. With each you get what you would expect. The custom shop instrument will almost assuredly be a better instrument, but is it 6 times better?
I love the Lonnie Mack/Bigsby trem look...

Tough to beat the Hamer Vector for that style...

Nothing wrong with the '67 Vees - I've got one of those with a trem as well, and it totally rocks.

I believe the maestro tremed 67's are also custom shop offerings.

I have an early Epiphone Korina V (which I bought for the boutique pickups installed in it). It turned out to play great and is a keeper

I have the Epiphone Korina Flying V and it measures up to any I've played. The last Gibson V I played was unacceptable.

Find a neck thru V. Can't get any better than that as far as the access to very last frets.
I built one ages ago myelf for a friend. 24 frets, no neck pick up.
It wasn't the best guitar to play Wes and Charlie Christian stuff but it sure cranked amps to 11 by itself.

I played a real '58 once. It was stellar. A pal owned it.
Dale, Attached is link showing the various models of Gibson Vs produced over the years. Plus another web site for additional info. I own an 83 Heritage Korina model. See lousy phone pic. PS: Thanks a clip on tuner at the top of the headstock.

Thanks for the link. I am not ready to spend the new Gibson prices for this one so I need to do some checking to review options more I guess. Maybe I shoudl stick with my LP's!

:agree
If upper fret access is key then neck thru is the way to go
Better yet forget the V and get a Firebird :Devil

Or an SG. My 95 Hamer Studio perhaps is where I need to call it.
