TAD 6L6 power tubes

I had a chance to A/B my Pignose Dumble clone with a Fuchs SF Bassman yesterday with a variety of cabs. While I was pleased to hear some nice similarities between the amps, the real kicker was pulling out the Sovteks and throwing in a set of TAD 6L6s. I know there's been a lot of hype thrown around about tubes, but the difference with the TADs was pretty astounding. All of the harshness that was driving me crazy was GONE! Smooth crunch, chunky bass, and very sweet top end.

I really hated to have to pull out the TADs and put the Sovteks back in, but I've got a set on order so it won't be long. :D

You did put the TADs back in the sockets you pulled them from, right? The mod has individual bias adjusts and it was set for each tube respectively. ;)

Why don't you email me with some thoughts......

I could have told you that the Sovteks sound like nasty ass. :eek:

Which TADs did you use? The short bottle or the tall? I just rebuilt a Bassman 100 into a tone monster (Super front end, Twin back end) and put the tall TAD 6L6's in it. I think they sound great. Of course, any tube would out do a Sovtek. Compared to just about any other brand they sound like ass.

The tubes Norm tried were the short bottles. I love them!!!

I got mine from The Tube Store (http://thetubestore.com/index.html).

As far as NOS tube comparison, dunno. I don't use them. There are too many good modern production tubes to bother with the prices and the hassle.

someone told me that the new groove tubes short bottles are the same as the TADs.
