Wow, thanks for posting. I really like the progression between Steve and Carla in the beginning . Really strong tune. Btw, Hiram was a bad ass.

He only played a handful of gigs with Miles, maybe less than 5. Anyone who got to see them together was lucky indeed.

Here's one of my favorite Hiram moments:

Although i'll have to say that getting to hear him play live a couple times are experiences i will always treasure.
Thanks to the OP for starting this thread.

Dear Prudence was amazing. I did get to see him live with David Sanborn in the early '80's, he blew me away...RIP

I was going to mention that too - not so much the studio version, but when I caught him live if SF. I do believe in music magic. :agree

Way too many to mention just one ...
I have every CD he ever did which he personally sent me ... what a honor that was.

Hiram's, all Latino arrangement's of cover tunes is one of the best recordings in my collection ...
Hands down ... incredible playing and arrangements of already very cool tunes ...
He's using all these incredible New York Latino musician's too ... killing CD!!

Hiram was truly one of my favorites ...

Suggest everyone pick up the DVD of his tribute concert too ...
there are many clips in the 'special features' section of Hiram playing live throughout the years ...
Not to mention what a great concert it is ... hosted by his long time buddies Will Lee, Paul Scheffer & Steve Jorden ...

On that healing power clip, I love how he bites in the pocket HARD, rather than for the chops or weird rhythmic or harmonic stuff - which he was actually capable of, but made the other choice(s)

This one is short and simple and Hiram's part is just part of it, but it's so full of awesomeness that when I think of Hiram it always comes to mind.

Without him and Steve Jordan the band lost all soul and any hipness cred!!

Saw Hiram once in a trio with Jaco and Kenwood Dennard. Gotta be in the all-time, top ten music shows I have seen!!

Kenwood Dennard put out a CD in the 90's called Just Advance that has some great playing by Hiram on it (as well as Marcus Miller, and other top-notch musos), if you can find it...

Nice interview with Mike Stern in the Jazz Session Podast.

He mentions dedicating his latest album, Big Neighbourhood, to Hiram.

haha good stuff.

While he's not playing in this one, I am 99% certain that's Hiram and his old strat in this classic Eddie Murphy James Brown Celebrity Hot Tub (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xf6m_james-brown-celebrity-hottub_music) skit...:rotflmao

Hey Bam,
This is my fav version of "Cactus". Would you by chance have a chord chart for this version? I started transcribing it but there are some ambiguous chords I'm struggling with. Any help would be great.

Thanks!

Def - I always wanted to make a lead sheet for this - it's too classic not too !. Keep reminding me if I slack - been having Finale for Mac issues
