I'm checking on this modded, 70's JMP. I'm sure I've heard of this outfit/mod tech somewhere, but I can't find a thing about em'. Any info at all, even vague recollection, would be helpful at this point. Thanks.

Seemed like there was a post over on rig talk about this quite a while back. Mike Fortin seemed to know quite a bit about the guy.

Hey thank you, that's at least a clue, considering there isn't a single word about them on google or anywhere else!

Elan Menron modded the amps. He was an EE for Yamaha at the time in LA. He and his brother had Metalhead studios on Cahuenga Blvd but he first started modding Marshalls out of his garage in Burbank for bands like Skid Row, Fear Factory, Assailant, and WASP.
The extra jack beside the noise gate pot is probably a footswitch jack for switching the preamp mod in and out. This was the old-school way of getting a "clean" channel on a modded Marshall w/o building a separate preamp channel.
The Metalhead Marshalls were very popular in Hollywood during the 80's. If you got a good one, they ROCK! Of course, like all modded Marshalls from the era, they are pretty much obsolete with today's stock high-gain multi-channel heads like the JVM, 5150, and Bogners. I'd still buy one if the opportunity arose and the price was right.

Hi, I am the brother mention in the posts above. Metal head amp /Mods were sold to a germen company and they have change the name to Excalibur. I think they did quite well but then they have disappeared. If you have any questions I can forward them to Elan for clarification. Enjoy what you have it is a piece of history.

not really, but we are thinking about reviving the EP1 preamp. seems that the music industry is in a need of a good vintage preamp :)
