View Full Version : C'mon, there has to be a way to know if a standard Crybaby has a Fasel...

...without opening it in the store, of course =)
The thing is that, here in Brazil, you can only return what you buy if it has a manufacture failure, and if I open a pedal I'm 'violating' its insides, losing my warranty.
But there has to be a way. Serial numbers? Manufacture dates? What should I look for?

One way, for the GCB-95 anyway, its something like GCB-95F

Well, yes, but this is the "Crybaby Classic", its more expensive than the GCB-95. According to this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgdMHSukUMU (it's in Portuguese but you can see what he's doing)
he opens a new GCB-95 and it has a Fasel in it.

Most listings I have seen have the Fasel listed quite boldly.
just be specific ask the seller and get focus before your purchase
I like the red fasel also

THIS is the answer. Ask the seller, get them to write on the reciept that it has a fasel (if they say it does) and when you get home, open it up and check. If it doesn't, then they didn't sell you what was agreed upon, even if you opened it up, they would have misrepresented the goods...it's not your problem if it was "opened up" then, right?

When you go to the store you could always ask for a Crybaby with a red Fasel inductor.
If the salesman isn't sure, why not open it up instore, or ask for a look? They aren't in a sealed package, are they? A few seconds to take the four feet off and you'll see straight away.
Having said that, doesn't the red Fasel come in a specific model only?

FWIW, I replaced the black inductor in the Vox Wah I bought 10 years ago with a red Fasel inductor and it didn't make a huge difference.

I replaced the black inductor in the Vox Wah I bought 10 years ago with a red Fasel inductor and it didn't make a huge difference. And that's because, IMO, the stock VOX inductor's pretty f**k'n good; I 'true-bypassed' my V-847 with a DP/DT switch, and added a FoxRox fuzz-friendly buffer, then proceeded to play it for many years; It's now sporting a yellow Fasel and has a kinda Jeff Beck/Colorsound vibe about it - it's definitely a more dramatic change than the red one. I installed it first, and played with it for about a day - The difference was, as the above poster says, negligible

you have to open it to put a battery in it anyway. No foul there. its round and red or yellow...good luck

The ones that come with the Fasel say so on the outside of the box.

Really?
Why is it a problem to unscrew three rubber feet/screws and slide the bottom over to look?
I don't get this.
It only takes a few seconds to do.
Then you know.
What is the issue?

honestly, opening the bottom of a wah pedal is just as normal as opening the battery lid dude!
i've shopped a lot in brazil in person, just go to a different store!
maybe the guy from the store knows it doesnt have what you're looking for in it or maybe he just doesnt know anything about guitar gear
