I removed an old speaker from my vintage amp and in the process tear up the paper/foam surround. The paper just stuck to the baffle at several points and when I pulled the speaker out, it just ripped. Anyone has any tips on how to do this without damaging the speaker? THX

I think you mean the gasket. You could try warming it with a hair drier.

I Use a razor blade scaper to get in there and lift the surround.
in most cases you will rip the gasket since everything was assembled 30 + years ago when paint or glue were still tacky
when installing new speakers i rub the baffle with parafin wax to prevent this

Even with a razor blade I wasn't able to do a clean remove. For new install I use some soft candle and rub that on the baffle where it makes contact with the gasket.
