So you see, the ipad fits into the body, and the iphone into the headstock and then...

Well I guess they never ripped this one (http://www.behringer.com/news/behringer-launches-iaxe-guitar-for-ipad-and-ipod/) off nobody....

They are missing an opportunity to put at least three more iPods on the fretboard area! ;)

Good Point! And half a dozen nanos, followed by 12 shuffles...

I was thinkin, if you take the price of the guitar out of the equation, this baby has cost you about 8 or $900 minimum on external hardware just to make it work?

Can't miss!

i'm pretty sure they're aiming it at synth players.

they do tend to be sort of techno- forward, so they probably would already own a few iThingies already.

owning a few Apple products already, i'm curious...

GPS Navigation for the fretboard :

"Turn left at seventh fret to fifth fret position and play a D minor triad to end solo."

And then Apple makes one small design decision to their casings or connectors and it's time to throw your keytar in the garbage.

Technically you only need the ipad. The headstock holder is handling a secondary function like a cut sheet or what have you.

Beyond that, the concept in interesting. Not for me as I don't need the functionality it provides.

It'll never have the mojo of a '59 burst or a '62 Strat, or even a 2005 MIM Tele. As real guitars become older, they remain functional and may even become classics.

As that thing gets older, advancing technology will make it obsolete.

You mean my Iphone 3G is never going to be a classic?

This idea is stupid.

The full setup will cost a fortune and provide no utility (outside of fleeting novelty) as a viable instrument.

Swiping a screen with your finger is in no way analogous to the tactile feel of fingers or a plectrum on strings. It's pointless to try to emulate it via a flat touchscreen interface.

If you were interested in actually making an iPad into an actual musical instrument (as many synth companies have done), you'd build it to the strengths of the interface, not use it in a way that only highlights the one thing it doesn't do well (tactile feedback).

This is a lot like the mobile-home sized iPod dock they released specs and concept renderings of a couple of months ago.

Cute concept. Utterly pointless, but cute.

Great. yet another way to de-humanize music. Pretty soon all music will be produced by non musicians pushing buttons. (or has that already happened?)

Do you plug it into an amp? Kinda neat but kinda gimmicky.

+1

It's a novelty, nothing more.

What about the relative tonal properties of an ipad case? Will it age well? How the hell will anyone relic it?

This must be kept from the kids. It could lead to dancing, and then giving in to uncontrollable urges!
