Carvin speaker cabinets, who's got one?

Hi All,

So sometime in the near future I'm going to need to get a 4x12. I was just looking over the Carvin website and for $459 you can get a loaded plywood construction 4x12 cab. So my question is how do the Carvins compare to other companies like lopo and avatar?

4x12 cabs are bargains on craigslist used...nobody wants to ship them.
Real Marshall and Mesa cabs loaded with Celestions can be had for $400 to $600.

Seriously, if I was in the market looking for a Vintage 30 or a G12H75 loaded cab their cabs would be considered if I found one used at a decent price, just like Lopo's and Avatar cabs. A buddy of mine had a V3 4x12 that came with G12H75's some years back and it looked and sounded good.

I took a look at the site (it took some searching to find the cab, not a well laid out site). Celestion speakers in that cab are a $150 option plus $79 shipping (CONUS). So, unless you'd take a chance on unspecified speakers that you've never heard before, the $459 412 becomes $688.

I'm sure the Carvins are good cabs, but seriously Marshall 1960A & B cabs are on craigslist constantly for $350+. If looks aren't important, you should be able to pick up a beaten but functional Marshall for $300.

I wouldn't bother buying a Carvin. If you want to buy brand new, look at Avatar.

I own a Carvin V3 4-12 (straight cab). Use it in a cover band every weekend. Good sounding cab that seems to be built very well.

I especially like the metal handles and metal grille. Gives it a different look, while also adding more protection for the speakers.

I've owned many Carvin cabs over the years. I live 2 miles from the factory. I only have a 2x12 now, but I've had 4x12's in the past.

Very well built, made in USA, good sounding cabs.

IMHO I think they are comparable to some really really good cabs. I have an original Legacy slant cab and use it with the Legacy head many dates per month and have gotten lots of complements on the tone. I'm not a total tone snob, however I do want it to sound right. You won't go wrong with any of the carvin cabs.

I have a X100B 4x12 slant cab,plywood construction,metal corners,grill and handles and sounds great. If you get one and don't like it you have 10 days to return it. If you buy something from Carvin,the options are 10% off, so V30's are $135.

I've got an older Carvin 4 X 12. Its built very well, all thick plywood. Construction is slightly different from Marshall - the back isn't removable, speakers load from the front. Overall I like it. I'd echo the sentiment that these large cabs can usually be had cheaply on the used local market.
