Hi all,
long time lurker - finally got around to completing my 'NOS' retube for my 2010 Vox AC15C1.
The amp already had a great jangle type sound, very clear and open but the stock chinese tubes had a tendency for noise and shake. Either way, I was looking to upgrade the tubes to make it more reliable for gigging, practice, etc.
Built the collection little by little:
'59 + '60 RCA 12AX7 x2
'72 GE (USA?) 12AX7 x1
'74 International Servicemaster (GE USA?) EL84 x2
These were according to the description. Either way, the tube swap was a complete success.
Amp got louder, clearer, and with a bunch of hours of playing breaks up real nice. Very nice upgrade.
So to those thinking about a Vox AC15C1, add some NOS tubes and be prepared to be wowed. This thing now has great volume and tone, I'd take it out without fear [of damage/theft] unlike some boutique offerings.
