Hey,

I was offered to buy this 1967 Jensen C12NA speaker, the potential seller just sent me these pictures:

What do you think about it? It looks pretty abused...
How much do you think it is worth?

Thanks!!!

Can't see any obvious flaws with the cone, and that's the important thing, really. Looks much like what used to go into Tweed Twins, with it's inverted ribs and and seamed cone. The only sure teller is playing the thing, I'm affraid.

I'm curious why the double gaskets, but the amp it was in may have had a less than straight baffle.

A Jensen C12N without any issues costs $50 or so. If you are buying that one for some sort of vintage restoration, it's pretty shot in terms of appearance to serve that purpose....and how it functions is at best questionable. I'd pass if it cost more than a newer C12N, which isn't much.

The cone looks decent. That is a seamed, ribbed cone version with heavy doping and brighter than the early 60's 8 ribbed, pulp cone with no doping. I guess you noticed that one solder tab is missing?

I like the old C12Ns. But it's hit and miss as far as voice coil rub. Sometimes I've fixed them with out a recone.
I think having one reconed by a pro runs atleast 50 bucks plus shipping. That's why I do my own but I ain't no pro !

Thanks for the replies so far!

@slider: Yes, I noticed the missing solder tap.

So how much would you pay for it?

See if you can get a pic of the voice coil. If it has dropped into the spider then the speaker won't sound very good at all. If the speaker works 100% with no issues then I would put the value at about $80, due to its cosmetics.

I'm in Europe, so prices are generally higher than in the US.

The seller wants 200, which is over 250$ ....
The thing is, that these kind of deals are a lot more rare here, the prices for vintage gear is insane.

I just thought, maybe this might be a great fit for my 66 BFDR....

That's the speaker that Fender should have put in the DRs. My 67 BFDR had one in it when I got it and I tried a few others. Went back to a C12N. Old not new. I don't know what the new ones are like.
