Dimarzio any 36th... should I look into something else?

Hi gang. I finally got a noice Les Paul :)

Anyhow, want to swap the pups for new set. I have used the dimarzio 36th any in other non les paul guitars with awesome results.

In those that have used them and prefer something else... what is it?

Overall any other recommendations?

i really like my 36th in the neck........i should get a few more. i have been using www.smitspickups.com (http://www.smitspickups.com) in a few other guitars. but the 36th is pretty nice :munch

I love them in my Les Paul and ES 335 for all styles of music.

Of course the OP has not specified what tones you are going for.

I had a 36th in the bridge of one of my superstrat guitars. Nice PAF style pickup. No complaints. Took it out in favor of something a little more modern sounding.

I use 36th's a lot. I also like Seth Lover (5th Ann A2 if possible), Antiquity, and others.

i have them in my les paul and they're VERY vintage sounding. i had a jb/59 combo before that i thought was vintage sounding but these dimarzios seem even more genuine.

both are great sets though. but dimarzios nail that old school paf tone and feel. their weak magnets really give a lot of nice sag too.

I'm pleased with the 36th Anni PAF in the bridge of my ES-335. FWIW, I've an Air Classic in th neck and it's fantastic as well. From British Invasion clean tones to full-bore 70s Rock, these P/U have me covered.
The 36th is fairly powerful and middy, btw; you may want to lower it to balance with a milder neck P/U like the Air Classic, Duncan '59, et al.. Worked for me.

Recently I was on the search for a nice rather authentic PAFish 'bucker. I researched the Dimarzio 36th and found many people saying it's "good for rock". I was looking for a neck pickup for my Telecaster to get more of a rounded jazz tone and decided on the Seymour Duncan Antiquity. I did not compare the pickups myself, just went off what seemed to be popular TGP opinion. I also wanted to avoid some of the higher priced PAFs that are out there.

It's installed now and is working perfectly for my needs. I'm a Dimarzio fan generally (run Areas in most of my gigging guitars) but I felt the Antiquity fit the bill tone and budget wise

I have a DP 190 Air Classic in the neck of my XOX Handle, and PAF Pro in the bridge. Wonderful tones across the board. These pickups sound great using single coil, parallel, and series wiring for each individual pickup also. It allows me to combine all sorts of tonal options easily.

Dimarzio has a chart for their pickups that tell you how the balance will be for low-med-high response from each pickup.
That is how I made my choices.

If I were to go with Seymor Duncan, I would use Antiquities, or Seth Lovers.

The neck pickup is fantastic! The bridge is underpowered and too bright. I swapped it out for the AT1 (Andy Timmons model) and it is a much better match, IMO.

I like the bridge 36th annie in my Baker RF Sig.
It has a smooth/vintage type tonality with alot of cut that
sounds excellent overdriven in a live mix. The clean tone with both pups on sounds
like a good balance as well.

I have nothing bad to say about these pickups for vintage sounds at contempary prices :)
