March 19th marks 30 years since we lost Randy.
A million guitarists trace at least some of their influential roots back to him.
After all this time, it isn't any easier to believe or accept and the questions of what could have been only grow with the years.
Damn, what a shame.

Such a tragic loss. Randy had a huge influence on my playing when I was starting out. I still love cranking it up and playing along to Diary, Mr. Crowley, Revelation and SATO. His solos on SATO and Mr. Crowley are just epic.

Love and miss Randy. Maybe the coolest looking rock guitarist ever, not to mention the chops and tones.
I still have the thank you but no thank you letter from Jet Records when the audition call went out. Brad Gillis got that gig. I think they wanted an experienced guy over some local greenhorn. Brad did an amazing job with very little prep time.
Anybody here among the rumored 150 or so who tried out for the job at the LA auditions in some theater?

Hungover at the 24 hour Sebring race, not far from the accident, I had to read the newspaper headline about 20 times, just didn't want to believe it.
the pilot was so irresponsible as was Stevie's, shame. RIP RR

I try to mark the anniversary every year here and it is touching to see so many people respond each time. I was unfortunate never to have seen him live but I did get the privilege of talking with his mother, Delores, on the phone shortly after he passed away. I was a 15 year old kid who idolized Randy, having just recently before discovered his talent. Mrs. Rhoads was gracious and I will forever cherish that conversation. I also spoke with Karl Sandoval a few times in the years after Randy's death and was lucky to receive a candid photo of Randy, bowtie and all, from Karl.

just bumming this, got an email that GW posted this:
http://www.guitarworld.com/video-randy-rhoads-after-hours-soundstage-performance
vid performance of randy in action w/ ozzy. it's kind of an odd jump cut production of only randy's stuff, but i watched the 8 min of video a bit a go.
he was such a good guitarist....
there's also the RR documentary thread....debated bumping that instead....it focuses only on the QR yrs.....i'd rather see a full documentary on his whole brief career (w/ ozzy stuff)....i think it's amazing, there's just not a lot of video on him....as someone says in the doc teaser, he's the james dean of hard rock.....

I didn't become a fan until the years after his death, but still miss his playing like it was yesterday.
A tragedy in every sense of the word.
RIP

I was alway's on the EVH side of the fence. That being said Randy's work with Ozzy was nothing less then spectacular. Though his studio tone was pretty crappy his live tone made up for it. At least for his short time here had the opportunity to show off his talent and was huge impact on many players worldwide. RIP RR.

Wish I could've gone with you!
Unfortunately I was ~12 at the time and my only exposure to Ozzy was the exaggerated stories coming out of his shows. So, I had no interest until just before Tribute came out. Clearly too late at that point.
To be able to see Ozzy & Randy now would be a dream come true!

THIS!!!
I was introduced to randy via the Tribute album when I was 14 and in my opinion is some of his finest work.

I don't think anything brings me more joy playing than (attempting) RR passages.

It is truly unbelievable that we lost Randy Rhoads over 31 years ago, It seems like only yesterday. I am VERY lucky to currently be taking guitar lessons at Musonia School of Music. For those who don't know, this is the school that is owned and operated by Randy's mom Delores and Kelle Rhoads. Randy taught here for a few years before leaving to join Ozzy Osbourne's band. I have not met Delores yet but Kelle is a blast, Great piano player. I still feel at awe when I enter the large room which contains Randy's pictures and numerous things left by all the fans who have visited Musonia. I almost feel as though Randy's spirit is there. I am very proud that Randy was a " valley guy " as I am. Coincidently, I grew up in Pacoima, California, just 6 miles south. The house I grew up in is a few blocks from the house Ritchie Valens used to live in. I also attended Pacoima Junior high school as Ritchie did. What a shame that both of these guys died in plane crashes WAY TOO YOUNG and while they were on their way up. I hope to someday jam with my two 'Valley" brothers.
