View Full Version : Question on my blackface Princeton

Hey Folks:

I've got a blackface Fender Princeton and bought a new speaker (Eminence Ragin' Cajun) for it. However, I just discovered that the speaker wires seem to be permanently attached to the stock speaker (labeled a Fender special design speaker). I'm guessing I'll either need to replace the speaker wires altogether (the other end is attached to the Fender amp with a 1/4 inch plug) or perhaps cut them and attach to the new speaker (with the appropriate connectors).

So my question is what would be involved for me to hook up the Eminence speaker? Is this something I could easily do myself or that I'm better off taking to a professional? (Before you answer that question, be warned that I am NOT a very handy person in such matters.)

Any help, or even pointing me in the direction of another website that could be helpful would be much appreciated. I did a quick search of the Web and didn't come across anything that addressed this issue.

Thanks!

p.s. In looking a little more closely, could I just buy a replacement speaker connector with a quarter-inch cable attachment on one end? Maybe that's the best route?

I did this very thing with the same amp.

You can do it yourself. You'll need a new speaker connector though. Just unplug the old one and leave it with the POS original speaker.

Rajun is a huge improvement in these amps!

If you want to 'push the easy button" email Mark at Lava cable, have him make you a cable with a 1/4" right angle plug on one end and 1/4" female spade push on connectors on the other end and have him mark the positive lead for you.

I would just buy one of these and leave the current cable with the current speaker: http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Wiring-Harness/Wiring-Harness-1x12-2x12-Cabs-w-Mono-Flt-Rght-Agle-1-4-Pl

Can't help with that, but I've got an SFPR, and the Ragin' Cajun was an awesome replacement speaker for mine, so just a word of encouragement to let you know you'll be VERY happy once you add the new speaker :D.

Thanks folks. I'm gonna stop by a local music store today and see if they have what I need. It's a pretty one, so they may well. Otherwise, I'll order one, and as suggested keep the original wiring with the original speaker.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in the new speaker. Can't wait to try it out! I was pretty bummed yesterday, all ready to plug it in, then I hit the wiring snap. Ah well, good things come to those who wait.

Again, appreciate the assistance.

If the wire is soldered to the old speaker, cut it or unsolder it. Strip about a quarter inch of the insulation off and squeeze on a couple of connectors from the local auto parts store or home depot. There's no need to buy a new cable.

+100. It's really simple to do.
