I couldn't get a shot when the band was playing, was too crowded. They were called Vdelli and put on a great show. Awesome playing & killer guitar tone- really punchy and clear which you could hear all the way at the back of the pub. I really enjoyed it.

It's bands like this one that I really do enjoy seeing-listening to.
What I meant to actually say is that I really like the fact that even bands with little to no fame take their sound seriously and really look into it to get near-perfect tones LIVE (studio sounds, even home ones can be really easily be awesome nowdays anyway).
And some of these bands actually do it on a small budget too.

yep. don't gotta be boutique amps and "vintage" klons, that's for sure.

I would like it even more if a band was using a BOSS DS-1 and a solid state Peavey and playing great music with passion.

It's a subkick -- something Yamaha started doing a little while back. Started off as a reversed speaker cone wired in reverse and would essentially capture the lower frequencies of the kick. Kind of a second mic to get more boom out of the kick.
