Does anyone know what "tonewood" really is ?...
I figure it's like ground beef, all the scraps left over compressed into a patty, or in this case a guitar body...

Quiznos has a new Lobster Sandwich.
If you look closely at the bottom of the screen in the TV ad, it reads "51% Lobster". What is the other 49??

I'm guessing there is not a strictly-adhered-to species of wood required for that model, so long as it is some type of hardwood. If they have poplar one week, the guitars get poplar. If they get agathis the next week, the guitars get agathis. If they're down to using urinewood, then the bodies are made of urinewood. Just a guess.
You're right. It is like being a butcher - here are the Filet Mignon cuts for the grill, and here's a pile of tallow for the sausage grinder.

This is my guess. They order "hardwood" from the supplier and they get what they get. Poplar, silver maple, etc. Who knows, maybe you got willow!

Maybe it's parawood (rubber tree), like the generic 'hardwood' that they make tables and TV trays from.
