I know there are plenty of these Eureka threads, but I thought I'd share for anyone looking for advice or for thoughs of us who have found the 'DRRI moment of clarity'.

My DRRI has always sounded good. I've read where people who buy one and immediately hit the net looking to mod theres, but I just couldn't bring myself to do this right away. I knew I needed to give it some time, let the speaker break-in etc., but I've recently been jamming with this new group, my first real chance to consistently open my DRRI up.

In my initial experience, it wouldn't break up, it sounded very clean almost sterile. So, I had Tung-Sol's (unmatched) put in and biased to about 23ma's, and Oh My Lord!!

This amp sounds warm, sizzling, 3 dimensional and alive!!

I would suggest to anyone who is experiencing this 'sterility' with their DRRI, before dropping coin on new speakers, cutting the bright cap etc. try some new power tubes (Oh, I also put in a AX7 LongPlate in V2) and a warmer bias. Depending on your projected tonal destination, this is a much easier, less invasive way to possibly achieve it.

Anyone elses thoughts, or experiences of this route to open up your DRRI?

I like using the normal channel and sometimes pull out V2 tube.
