Guitar Movie - Can't Remember Name...

It was about a teenage kid who goes to LA with his white Strat in the 70's. One recurring scene involves him playing out on the porch in Laurel Canyon or something and another never-seen guitarist responds with an echoing lick.

Any ideas?

I've seen that one too. If I recall correctly, it seemed like a made for tv movie on vh1 or something.
