When did these arrive? Not everyone seems to have them. How can I get rid of them?

Great question.

They are in the OP only.

Most other sites and forums have them, just trying them out in advance instead of just rolling out VB4 where they are part and parcel of the software.

Thanks! Mystery solved.

Any consideration given to polling the members whether this is something of interest? I'm not particularly interested in it and I had the same WTF reaction when I saw them in a few posts. I even own/operate a business that does nothing but social media and I don't want my G.A.S. problems known outside of this cool little world here on TGP.

I'd vote to welcome the new buttons however I think they'd look better at the bottom of the post maybe

I think it would be really nice to be able to go somewhere without Facebook being involved. Seems like every time you log onto anything Facebook is sticking its nose in there.

I don't use Facebook or Twitter so I would vote to remove them.

Or maybe just don't use them? No reason to eliminate them.

Great idea. Very cool. Hopefully most will welcomely embrace the additions. This could be great to generate more revenue for the site in encouraging new supporting members when cool gear from the emporium for sale is tweeted.

I would prefer to see them at the bottom, though, aligned with the quote buttons, etc.

How about a compromise... Keep them, just move them from the top of the body.

Does it look like this for everyon else?

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-J6C-8t7Jlyk/T2swPlGurrI/AAAAAAAABh4/mGF6JibMBkw/s800/twitbreak.PNG

Keep the functionality if you want but that's annoyinly ugly.

Aside from not using either service ever, I suspect they are making my TGP hang up and work slowly. Is that just my imagination? I've had to quit and re-start 5 times already.

if you're at work (like me) and they firewall twitter/fb, it makes the OP look really clunky/annoying

They seem to appear at random. I see them in my post that started the thread, they are coming and going in Scott's post and they are in strumminsix's post.

I am not on FB and have an inactive Twitter account so won't use them. But can others re-post my posts to Twitter and FB ? I am opposed to that.

Do we have to have them on our posts even if we don't use twitter or Facebook?

"This could be great to generate more revenue" - There you go.Cause of course what reason is there for waking up and taking that 1st breath? Certainly nothing else I can think of outside of revenue.

Rough day? The site is free and the mods put a lot of work into it. Try a little tenderness, pal. Adversely, if you enjoy the site, try supporting it.

Can you read posts here without signing up for an account?

If yes, these are cool.

If no, somewhat useless IMO. Putting those URLs for posts out there, but requiring people to sign up for an account to read, generally doesn't sit well with the casual reader set on Twitter at least.

Anyone can already publish the URL to your posts on Twitter on Facebook.

Any post could easily be broadcasted via social media. The button simply makes it half a second faster than cutting and pasting a link to your post.

It's only on the OP of any thread, not every post.

There's no revenue to be generated from it, that's not any part the motivation to check it out. I had Alec put it in because enough folks have asked me for it via PM and email over the last year to finally try it.

Alec's said that on our version of VB, we can't move them. Any forum on VB 4.x+ has them as a default. Most other forums have them.

We're just looking at it.

What's the point and why does Facebook have to appear on pretty every website everywhere these days? My vote would be to lose it again.

If you got a lot of emails and PMs asking you jump off a cliff, would you jump off a cliff?

We're all nerds or we wouldn't be on here.

But this is beyond nerd.

Plus, do we really want to be unleashing Dr. Tweedbucket's threads on the world at large? I'm a fan, but think of the children!

i realize that the url can be posted, but honestly, how many times do you see someone on FB posting a url to a thread vs how many times do you see a thread 'liked'?

either way, the admins are gonna do what they want. i'm not sure making the first post irritating to many for the generation of no revenue is a wise move, but i haven't been asked, so i'll shut up now.

Could care less if they exist or not. What I don't understand is how it works. To whose account/page/wall does clicking the button post to, the OP or the person clicking? I assume there must be an intermediary step where you log into your account for the post to activate and even then what displays, a link, the post, what?
