I thought the Bruno Undergound 30 was loosley based on a Vox amp. . .Not sure if its the top boost version or what.

Check out Tony's amps here:

I believe the earlier Bruno Underground 30 is based on either a Fender tweed or brown-faced Pro preamp section with a Vox AC30 power amp. Until recently the UG30's were built with two distinctly voiced preamp sections with individual input jacks. One section had a single tone control and bypassed the reverb (if so equipped). The second section had treble and bass controls as well as a reverb. Both preamp sections shared the presence control. It is possible to use an A/B footswitch to select between the two inputs.

More recent amps have a single preamp section, but typically have bright switches as well as two input jacks with different gain levels. There are many variations of the UG30 since Tony Bruno built many of the amps with options to meet customer requirements.

Current market value of a used Underground 30 ranges from $1200 to $2000 depending upon configuration and build options.

Since Bruno no longer builds amps.............you might want to snag one cost be damned.

Supposedly due to health problems he is no longer building. There's a UG30 in the Emporium right now BTW.

According to his website the UG30 was voted Best Amp In The Universe by Guitar Player Magazine in 1997. Grab it while you can !

I've owned a Bruno Underground 30 and currently own an Underground Custom and Super 100. People often times state that the Underground 30 resembles a Vox, but in reality, the Underground 30 has its own thing going on. At lower volumes, I've been able to get blackface-like tones out of them, and at higher volumes, I've been able to get Marshall-like tones from them.

After comparing the Brunos to a variety of amplifiers at Ultrasound Studios, including Dr. Z, Two Rock and vintage Dumble, Fenders and Marshalls, I can confirm that Bruno amps compare very favorably.

If you can pick-up an Underground 30 in good shape at a reasonable price, I'd say go for it, provided that you have a good attenuator or can play loud. FYI, I'd still have my Underground 30, if the previous owner hadn't abused it, resulting in problems that I never could get sorted out.

A UG30 set at slight breakup sounds heavenly, like the best of both worlds between Fender BF and Vox.

I was looking at buying a UG30 and since I couldn't figure out what market was (as some have said, I've seen them not sell on eBay a lot for between $1,400 up) and that I couldn't figure out the differences between then (some had reverb, some didn't. Some had two inputs, some didn't. Some had a mid knob, some didn't.) I just bought another Matchless.

Despite Tony's hiatus from amp building, there still doesn't seem to be a lot of people buying these up as they tend to come up a lot for sale. I don't foresee these becoming the next Trainwreck or Dumble as they are just too many of them out there.

I had heard it is a tweed pro preamp into a Vox power section. Its a great amp but some people have said that it doesn't have a lot of headroom. It will be collectible but not sure it will as collectible as Dumble or Trainwrecks as there are more of them out there. At the moment Brad Paisley is the only famous guy I know is a Bruno user, it will become more collectible if there are others.
