Fetto Custom vs Okko Diablo.... Does anyone have experience with both of these pedals ?
What is your opinion of the tone of each and how would you compare and contrast them ?

It's been a long time since I had the Diablo, and I had the Custom a while back.
Overall, I'd say the Diablo has a smoother grit to the gain, kind of TS-ish in the grain style, and the Custom has a bit more bite and Marshall style grit to the gain. The Diablo was a bit 'puffier' sounding at higher gain levels (got thicker sounding), and the Custom gets more of a low-mid punch. I'd also say that the Custom is a lot more dynamic. The Custom also has better note definition with higher gain levels.
They are quite different pedals, and there isn't a lot of overlap.

I own current models of both pedals now. I agree with everything Ben C. says above except the point about the Custom being more dynamic. My experience is that they are about the same as far as dynamics especially when the Diablo is set on the 18 volt setting on the pedal. The Diablo can do the smoother Dumble-like tone better, but it can also bite. The Diablo's Feed and Body controls are brilliant and should be on every OD pedal. They are both excellent low gain pedals as well, and I use them for edge of breakup sounds more than higher gain. They both have surgical ability to shape the tone, and both are good stackers. The low-mid punch of the Custom is amazing and I often use it's broad EQ to bring the punch to other pedals. I have an embarrassment of riches in OD pedals right now, and I want to thin the herd, but I believe the Diablo and the Fetto Custom will always stay.

Brian Spencer of Pedalshark is an Authorized dealer of Himmelstrutz . I just received the HimmelBox from him this this past Friday, June 7th. In the Himmelbox, there is a Fetto Custom, Mr NutCRACKer, ToNKer, Nord70+, and the FITZO.
The Nord+that just came out isn't included in the HBox. It's a Fetto Custom w/ the Nord 70+ boost and the boost can be used separately from distortion side of the Nord.
Brian asked me to start a thread once I go thru the effects, as the HBox will be sent out to several people from the forum to check out.

Thanks, James - good to know my impressions hadn't completely faded over time :) . Never tried the Diablo at 18v - was using a 1-Spot at the time. Mine was called the "Purple Panda" and aesthetically designed by my request... I often think about that pedal and would like to buy it back. I actually thought it excelled for low gain, but thought it was a bit muddy at higher gain (which is what I wanted at the time).

Had a Custom and now the Diablo...both great pedals...both dynamic and both cleanup...
The Diablo G+ is rockin my world right now and I agree with James...the body...feed and tone knobs along with the 9-18v switch are absolutely brilliant and a huge reson why...I can dial it in with any guitar or amp...in my setup it has a much smoother gain texture at the higher levels than the Custom...my Custom was ratty/fizzy in my setup with gain settings over 2oc and that's why I sold it...the Diablo is smoother but can get bright or aggressive...
The first high gain pedal that is not fizzy in my setup which is saying a lot because the Celestion Gold can accentuate that frequency when pushed...the Diablo lets me dial that out...
Ben the Diablo runs at 9vdc and has a 9>18 volt switch which doubles the voltage internally...you don't need an 18vdc power supply...

Yes, that's true now.
But I was talking about my experience owning one several years ago (pictured above) and that was before that feature was implemented.

Ben,
I had an early Diablo prior to the 9/18 volt switch and I thought the pedal had lots of potential so I sought out and found a Gain+ here on tgp. The 9/18 volt made a big difference for me and I play the pedal virtually exclusively on the 18 volt setting. I'd say it's worth trying again if you have an easy opportunity, though I know how happy you are with your Fetto Deluxe.
Seegs, I have been able to smooth out the grit of the Fetto Custom quite a lot by running both the "Top" (bass) and the "Bottom" (treble) controls well below twelve o-clock. I almost sold it the first month, but kept trying. Now I often use the Custom stacked after another pedal to make everything sound bigger. I know, tap dancing is a pain when playing live, but I just consider certain pedals another tool in the kit.

James...I've tried all the settings and couldn't dial that out...just a case of the Celestion Golds being very picky about which pedals will work or not...
