Its my first bass... I was asked at a jam a few weeks back to give the bass player a break and I played bass for the first time in public like ever... I've messed around in the music store with them and got some encouragement from my friends to think seriously about picking up a bass "You'll get to play at the jam more as well as play more".
So, my favorite local music store, who has decided to phase out carrying Fender (long story, they do very well with Ibanez, Godin, G&L and they carry band instruments as well), and they have closeouts going on Fender gear...
Silly me, I didn't even realize that I was playing a fretless bass when I picked up the MIM Jazz Bass they had there, I kept thinking "this sounds, so cool and no fret buzz" (because they put markers on the neck) and had put it up back on the rack when one of the owners came in from the back. I've bought a lot of stuff from them, told him I'd caught the bass bug and he said "You know, the best fretless is the Squier that's up there". He handed it to me, I plugged it in, and said "this is pretty decent" (I thought it was just as good as the MIM, if not better). Anyway, I walked out there for $260 including tax/gig bag, and now I've got a new addition to my arsenal...
I didn't want to spend a lot but I've got a nice quality instrument that will be a lot of fun... thanks to all of you in the bass forum (I think that's where my original post got moved to on the playing bass subject) that gave me good advice on buying a bass and playing one in general. I really appreciate it. Now here's some pics... the bass and my updated arsenal... :)
