View Full Version : My Wifes new music video... tell me what you think

let me know what you guys think... It's my wifes tune, I tracked some drums, built "original" sets, we did most of everything ourselves. Budget was a pretty big issue. BUT. I think it turned out pretty cool.

She is hot, the song is clever, the video is well done. I like the hands are clean getting dirty and the well...bloody
So do you feel safe sleeping at night?
I liked it.
Not for the under 8 year old crowd :)

Creepy. In a good way, though.
Nicely done. Better than quite a bit of the stuff out there right now.

Congratulations, really. On several levels.
Great melody and lyrics, cool sparse arrangement. The song has a touch of a Kurt Weill/Amanda Palmer-ish vibe.
She's very photogenic, has a great voice, and is obviously very comfortable in front of the camera. Love when her "dark" persona is banging away at the piano.
Enjoyed it very much - best of luck!

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Although with a wife that good looking I doubt there's much sleeping going on, nudge nudge wink wink.

I dug the almost the whole thing... The majority of the arrangement, the instrumentation, the presentation, the mood... my only critique, is it just didn't seem to resolve. I keep thinking it was going somewhere... one more build step... and it never got there. Felt like some great potential for the tune was left on table. It came soooo close to being awesome.
Personal opinion... and I'd still listen to more of her material. I did like it... Really.

As art- awesome.
As music- I'm like Eyeteeth, wanted to hear just a bit more, almost like the song was intended to segue into another. My opinion probably reflects my almost complete lack of what's cool/popular/hip, so take it as you will.

This pretty much sums it up for me. This could be one of the song ideas that never made the final cut for the "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

This is extremely well done.
Like some others though I feel like this is the first movement of an epic song, not a whole song by itself.
But don't get me wrong, it sound and look fantastic.
And your wife is a keeper... Does she have a mother? :p

I'm a cynical, sarcastic mother****er and I went into it expecting to hate it but I actually thought it was really good. The song, production, tones and video were all really cool. Your wife is gorgeous and has a great voice with lots of character.
My only complaint is that I kept waiting for a groove to kick in. Personally I think having it switch into a semi-conventional rhythm section would have brought it home... for me. I kept wanting to hear a soulful, yet quirky Matt Chamberlinesque drum groove coming in and shifting gears. It didn't happen.

Very very nicely done! I liked that. Love the mix where the wind noises gave the intro a real '3D' feel. Loved the cello bits too...
This is amazing - if you concentrate very hard on the video you'll suddenly notice that there's some music on there - how do they do that?
But seriously.......very good (and the music).

One more thought on this. Where can I buy this song. I looked everywhere for a link. Do you have this on Bandcamp, reverbnation, Amazon, Itunes. There should be some sort of link from the You Tube page to direct people to a website to purchase.
I would like to buy this song, I just can't find a link.

Let's see..
In looking at the thread title..
Hmm, yes...
It says....
"TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK"
Now, the way I read that, is prompting me to, well, tell him what I think...
Go figger...
Otherwise, it is the same old schtick... "yeah, yeah, your band sounds GREAT baby [rub rub..]"
I did not see the prerequisite regarding "positive comments only please". Can you point me in that direction?
What would one want to hear, stroking or truth as one see's/hear's it?
This is the first thing that hit me before the end of the first bar..

Why are there people in this world with differing thoughts? That is downright freaky!
If you are talking about me, making a critique is hating?
That is the makings of some pretty thin skin then.

My critique is that it was much too close to work from the Dresden Dolls, but with a lack of resolution.
Actually reminds me more of Jill Tracy, but agree with the overall point. And the voice could use a little more "acting". As far as the actual video, I think the costume was the weakest part of it. Something too "clean" about it.
But overall some pretty amazing work.

04-09-2012, 07:20 AM
I liked it. Reminds me of Shivaree for some reason.
But... after watching it, I wanted to hear more. And the other stuff is her doing Led Zeppelin and Tina Turner covers in a bar band. Definitely a let down, as those vids are typical amateur vids. As marketing, they compete with and confuse the image projected by “Dig”. You might want to take them down. It’s obvious she’s moved on from that…
Good Luck!

For starters, terrific work. Loved the finish on the production, the song, the performance, the mix, all of it. Frankly I think you have some serious potential here, so plz take my IMHO's as addressing serious work for serious market penetration.
I too wanted the song to resolve into a dance groove...I kept hearing a prelude to a Tango in there. The point being here that the audience needs a hook they can tap their toe to, to get the song to ear-worm. However, it struck me that you might not have to do a single thing to the song to do that...maybe just splice a couple of cuts into the vid.
I have a hunch a sequence or two with a ballroom dance team (on a spare dark set) interpreting...in like costumes...would cover it. Instead of giving the audience a groove they already know and can hence internalize, you demonstrate a new and cool way to internalize a new and less-familiar groove...via dance. Ballroom dance as a centerpiece of a new rock act would certainly set you dramatically apart from anything else on the overcrowded music markets. Esp if you keep the choreography relatively simple so the Saturday-night barroom dance crowd can do it, ala Disco.
One other approach...leave the song as-is, and use it for a setup to a following song. Then its powerful prelude-character would indeed take us to a place it hints at...that place being your hit single. IOW, you write your album not as "tracks" as we know them, but more as movements as in the classical world, each movement being a "track."
Anyhoo, truly dug the work, great stuff! Mos def Jm2c. :beer
