View Full Version : College football player kicked my door in last night

Actually, one of several. They confused my apartment for some girls they were pissed at. They figured out their mistake, and then busted out this girl's window and tried to break into her house. The landlord hasn't had my door fixed yet, so it appears I am going to have a super late night guarding the door.

Cops were here last night and called the coach, but I haven't heard anything in the news about it.

I ****ed up, though, by pushing to have this guy removed from the team with his coaches via social media. Honestly, I am pretty worried that those guys might come out and try something. I don't have a gun nor the money for it, or I might not be so nervous. I am trying to right the ship by telling the coach and players I will drop it if I don't have to deal with them anymore.

Talk me out of my bad nerves. Please. I have bad anxiety problems at the best of times.

You did the right thing. They kicked your door to your home in and to me that is a serious offense and there should be some serious consequences for them. A lot of people on this forum seem to choose the route that is safest and call it the right choice to nurture their egos. You did the right thing....I think. Not sure exactly what you mean by social media. You should just go to the school personally. You can be scared, but if you believe that they should be kicked off the team, stick with your plan. Remember, that they were also doing this to a female student. They don't deserve to be in college.

Those boneheads would be in even deeper shit if they did something else to you at this point. It will be okay! Take a deep breath. I know that's some crappy advice but a good sigh here and there does help, if only for a little bit, in my experience. Try not to overthink it too much. That's what really gets you with anxiety, the overthinking. Go do something that will take your mind off of it. Get out the guitar and have a therapy session. :console

Edit: And if you don't see any results from your interactions with their handlers, I'd go further. Once you get your door fixed. I think some of the bigger schools would be reluctant to enforce any sort of punishment at all. It gives some players the idea they can get away with anything. This kind of behavior is ridiculous for people their age. Hopefully the coaches will make an example of them. If not, go above the coaches' heads, and if that doesn't work... to the press.

Y'know what guys? You are all exactly right. The funny thing is: I have no clue why I am so worried about it. These guys are running back, 5'10 200lbs. I'm 6'4" 230 with a hell of a reach. But, I am also not stupid enough to fight them. The authorities, the coaches, or the press will handle this. I will keep you updated.

BTW, I know it is home invasion. Honestly, I need a gun in the house (don't worry; been around them SAFELY my whole life. Had to take safety courses when I was real young because I have a family full of hunters).

They didn't take anything and moved on,if they replace the door I'd let it go.If they dented my car or stole a guitar it'd be a different story. The way people are now and these guys are unstable from the get go. Looking over your shoulder and then let your guard down,a couple years pass and then late at night walking home and WHAM!.

The girl can fight her own battles with her family and support network and college or whatever.

The girl is pressing charges, but it has nothing to do with me. She is just a neighbor that seems to attract this type of attention. These guys made a simple mistake, but it does make me worry that they are stupid enough to hold a grudge. One of the guys was kicked out of Florida for grades, the other has already been arrested and also tried to run over someone in the parking lot.

I am moving to the UK in a few months, as soon as I get the cash.

I wouldn't trust the coaches to do anything, or even the police for that matter. Take it to the press and the publicity will force the coaches and/or police to do something about it.

Just how would it be different? If they are unstable they could come after you even if they stole a guitar or dented your car.

This is the wrong approach, imo. Bad behavior is bad behavior and it should not be tolerated. I'm betting the whole reason why they continue with bad behavior is because too many folks 'let it go' and do nothing. These clowns broke the law and they should suffer the consequences.

OP, don't let fear control you. We would all be worried about about the same things if we were in your shoes, but true courage is acting even when you're afraid.

Sorry for the 'lecturing' vibe. :D

I wouldn't worry too much. Hopefully the cops and the college will take care of the issues. It's no big deal if you don't have a gun. A fire extinguisher is much better in close quarters anyway. A good spray to the face followed by a few good jabs and smacks can do the trick nicely.

It depends:
If they play for UF, let it go.
If they play for Georgia, Tennessee, or South Carolina do everything you can to have them expelled.

That's breaking and entering where I live and it's a felony. Very serious prison time involved. I wouldn't worry much about retaliation. If it's as serious a crime there as it is here I'm betting the players will be very good little boys from here on. I'm sure the school administration and coaching staff would come down pretty hard regarding that. If due warning hasn't been given (and I'll bet it has), then I would be extremely pissed and much more aggressive about getting a response from the school.

Seriously, it needs to be impressed on those guys that their stupidity could have easily had a tragic outcome had you been armed. And many homes these days are very well protected. A young, promising life could have been needlessly snuffed out over a really dumb thought. Perhaps a tour of the morgue would be in order.

They belong in jail plain and simple, and real time too, like a year minimum IMO.

People like that have no right to be walking the streets, ticking time bombs, what sickens me is watching a show like "Cops" where people that obviously have mental/drug problems are cuffed, or prostitutes doing nothing but making people feel good, all while violent criminals like the OP people walk free, or are even celebrated! the real crime is lack of proper law enforcement.

Like I said, the coaches aren't going to do anything, and the police aren't likely to do anything either, unless the press gets wind of it and makes the incident public. And even if you're not worried about yourself, just think of what could happen to the next poor person these thugs decide to go after. They need to be locked up like the animals they are.

Are they first string? How many rushing yards did they put up last season? Are they good blockers too?

Looks like a wonderful bunch of people. Just look at this article from 2011:

http://www.sbnation.com/ncaa-football/2011/6/27/2247431/tron-martinez-arrested-marshall-football

"Marshall University running back Tron Martinez was arrested early Friday evening on disorderly conduct and obstruction charges, the Huntington (WV) Herald-Dispatch reports. Details of the incident are not available as of 7:30 PM Eastern Monday evening, and no one from Marshall appears to have released a statement.

This isn't the first time Martinez has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

On April 17, 2009, Martinez was arrested and charged with 11 felonies, including gang participation, and a pair of misdemeanors in his hometown. At the time, Martinez had a football scholarship to Old Dominion University, which was quickly taken away.

He spent two and a half months in jail and nearly nine months on home confinement. Eventually, all charges were dropped minus a misdemeanor."

So a gangbanger commits 11 felonies, and gets the charges dropped to a misdemeanor because he's a football player. Which is why this incident needs to go public, because as I've said nothing is going to happen to them otherwise. The coaches and the cops will just sweep it under the rug.

Oh, and in fairness to the University of Florida, I'd like to point out that Travon Van never set foot in Gainesville. He signed a letter of intent but didn't qualify academically, so he was released from his LOI and ended up going to Marshall instead. So he wasn't kicked out of Florida; they never let him in in the first place.

I love this idea.

I think the coaches and the school will be worthless in this situation. They'll be under immense pressure to bury this event.

Even the local police will not want to do anything to interfere with the local sports program...........that's a sacred thing.

No, only the NCAA is in the kind of mindset to actually maybe look after you. Anxiety I find is in the not knowing. Let's find out right away if you have any protection, and if you don't, you need to know it.

Considering we have College Football Coaches that turn the other cheek and let pedophilia and rape go on for decades, I would venture to say the coaches wont do shit.

I would NOT want to go up against a college football team, unless I want to be kicked out of school or worse...

I see this as a NO win situation...get them to fix your door, move to different housing, and drop it...

Oh, and social media? I might nix that. That is passive, and will not remain silo'd for long. You want to let the big bosses take action on your behalf.

Personally, I would feel terrible if I quieted down and moved away. I'd feel like a p*ssy and a bad example for my children. I do completely understand the position from a pragmatic perspective and would not fault someone for going that route. It's just not how my brain and heart work.

Damn, you guys are ruthless, lol. I love the ideas. The landlord is filing charges, and has a friend that is the judge handling this. Team meeting at 6am tomorrow. Any player that is not there is gone automatically. I will say one thing about the head football coach. He has a reputation for cleaning house. Last year, a player was accused, falsely I might add, and Doc kicked 'em out. He let him back in after the charges were dropped. The problem is that Marshall is knwon for taking hard cases (i.e. Ahmad Bradshaw and Randy Moss), so it is likely that they are recruiting from prisons.

I completely agree. I understand the OP's objection to any comparison, but there is an awfully consistent culture of entitlement, acting above the law & being beyond reproach amongst the coaching staffs at many upper tier NCAA athletic programs. The bigger the revenue generator &/or reliance economically by the local community (or state), the more empowered/encouraged these programs are to cover up anything.

I'm still convinced Arkansas never would have fired Petrino if they didn't have to.

that all depends on how important these particular players are to the team's ability to win football games.

if they are integral to the team's success, you might--sadly--find yourself up against a very formidable brick wall.

Other than that, pursue it as far as you think you should. I used to play a club by the stadium (it was called the Stoned Monkey at the time), and I would tend to agree.

Yeah, it has been gone for a few years. Only dance clubs left. Such a shame. I miss Gyrationz the most.

Doesn't over half of America have a gun in their homes these days? Seems like an incredibly stupid idea to kick someone's door in when there's a high possibility that they'll be staring at a loaded gun on the other side of that door.
Glad this whole entitled spoiled athlete thing that goes on in the states doesn't happen at any universities I know of up here.

Yeah, it's part of the culture here especially with the higher level programs. Frankly, it all starts & ends with money.

Yeah, that is what I am waiting on. My landlord said the coach is supposed to contact him this morning. Apparently, this is felony destruction of property. Of course, if it were you or me, we would already be in jail. The thing that kills me is that these guys and one coach are acting like I am out to destroy their reputation, like they didn't do anything wrong in the first place.

If you know their names you may be able to find out if they've been arrested by checking the http://wvjails.info/ then just find your areas jail and start surfing mugshots.

I think Huntington is Western Regional jail correct?

Wouldn't be too surprise if the college makes a generous annual donation to the local police department, to, you know, help them with fund raising like.
