Pure and simple, what's the neck profile like on yours?
Please also let me know what year and model SG you have.

73 Std, skinny and fast. Nothing they make today is like it. My 78 LP Custom is very similar though.

I don't own one but all of the 70s SGs that I've played have had skinny necks

I have a 70-71 SG. I'd say the profile is a deep C. But the neck itself is a little narrow (binding to binding). The nut width is pretty narrows as well. The fretboard radius is very flat (probably 12" radius?). I love the depth, it could be a little fatter in the shoulders of the profile. It's a comfortable C. A bit deeper than a modern C from Fender.

'74 SG Special w/mini-hums here. Narrow neck, especially at the nut, but thick enough depth-wise (would agree with Axis39's description). Think you'll find most of the Norlin-era SG's had that narrow nut, as did most of the late 60's models (also have a '68 SG Jr with basically the same neck profile).
