i don't usually use many pedals live, just an analog delay and wah,but i'm going into the studio with my band next month and i have this song that sounds like a cross between neil youngs soundtrack for dead man and everetts theme song from true blood...so go figure :)

anyway i like the sounds in both those songs but i would like to do my own thing, and was thinking of getting a tremolo pedal for that really swamp sounding guitar,so any suggestions, since i'm a newbie with this stuff?

Hey, it's in the name, right? I use an older one and it NAILS the bias-driven tube tremolo found in the smaller fender tweeds.

I'm not tremolo expert but I have tried and owned a handful of tremolos. The first one I really liked was a Dunlop TR1. Lush and swampy. Love it! They can be found pretty cheap, too.

I had a pulsar, never found a setting I liked and it didn't have a volume knob to compensate for it's drop in volume. Definitely isn't EHX's finest pedal.

Well I guess if you're not too much in a rush you could wait for this one?

Should be plenty versatile.

tremolessence. verstile, panning, a wide sweep on the rate knob, expression control for depth and rate , many wave forms thanks to the symmetry feature, treble cut and boost, volume and a hold feature . synced stereo tremolo as well. mono to stereo, or stereo to stereo ins and outs. its hard to veat I tell yah. the flint, is going to have that harmonic trem, but the opt, and bais sounds are found in a lot of trems. having said this, a boss tr2 works very well. pulsar, dano, rfx panelo, cheap is fine with trem.

+1....had a Tremulator. Got a Swamp Thang and couldn't be happier. Just right for what my ears call "swampy".

Wanted to use it since the features are great but the Black Cat Mini Trem is so much better at moody trem sounds. The tone control is really usable.

One trem to rule them all in the swampness bind them - Effectrode Delta Trem (IMO)

probably has to do with a triangle wave verses sine wave. sine does seem slightly nicer for the mellow swamp. I think tone control on a tremolo is indeed a great feature. I use my goatkeeper to control the tremolessence, the goatkeeper has a sine not the tremolessence :bonk oops, my mistake. But there's idea, tremolessence controlled with a goatkeeper :banana

Loved the Diamond Trem I had(stupidly sold it). Super versatile if you need it to be but I just loved the classic throb setting (think it was the shark wave setting). When I think classic Trem tone, what came out of that box was it.

Just for the studio? Check the studio. A lot of studios will have some kinda old (or reissue) fender amp with tremolo, like a Deluxe or Twin Reverb, Vibro-Champ, etc. Can't get better than that for that sound. A cheap but good pedal is the little Dano Tuna Melt.

That's a lot of $$$ just to get a swampy trem sound though.

I have an EHX Stereo Pulsar, and it is very versatile and it has some great sounds. It needs an isolated power supply to be at its quietest (like all trems I've had). And the knobs are pretty sensitive due to their range. It can have a slight perceived volume drop on certain settings, which shouldn't be an issue in the studio. It has its quirks, but for the price, its a great tremolo tool, and it can do some nice stereo panning as well.

I use a Boss TR-2 on my board, but I will always keep my Pulsar for all the sounds it can do. The Boss is also great for a good basic trem, not nearly as versatile though.

The BOSS TR-2 always sounded like a Fender Blackface Trem to me.

+1 on the Swamp Thang ... great sounding Trem.

If you want tap tempo and versatility, Cusack Tap-A-Whirl is great. But doesn't get as swampy as the Swamp Thang.

If digital is an option, consider the Strymon Flint ... great Trem and Verb tones, but tap tempo only via external switch.

I know it's not popular, but I think the Digitech Hardwire TR-7 is an exceptional tremolo for the $$ (used - I paid $77). it has 4 different modes (well, 3 1/2 - depending how you look al it); all sound really good. I bought it for the leslie sim, which isn't that good, but am considering keeping it for the trems and other effects.

Does the hardwire do tap tempo ?

I have an old Tremulator. This thing sounds better. Not as good as the Trem on my Brownface Bandmaster but it does have that harmonic trem thing goin' on. Trem so deep you could almost get seasick.

+ 1 on the Swamp Thang too.

I believe they're discontinued now?

Looks like it's back ordered, but at least that means it's not discontinued?

Seymour Duncan Shape Shifter w/ Tap Tempo. If it doesn't do what you're looking for (which it does, i have it, and its swampier than CCR/Skynyrd in a blender full of pond scum) then you're not looking for a swampy trem.

Its not friendly on pedalboard real esate, but no worse than any other dual switch pedal.

It will never leave my board.

After going through many boutique trems, I have finally settled on a modified Boss TR-2. Great sounds, great size.

However, I am intrigued by the new Strymon Flint.

Yes indeed, a great trem pedal. I got a killer deal on a near-mint used one last week.
