View Full Version : Can one Tap Tempo switch operate two devices?

I have a Digitech FS300 three button fs to control my Timefactor and I was wondering if I can use the switch that I've assigned to operate the tap tempo function to do the same for another pedal (I'm planning on getting a Strymon Flint when they become available). Could I install another 1/4" jack and connect it in parallel to the wires on the switch, or would I need to replace the switch with another type? Any ideas?

yes, you could do that - or you could use a mono y cable to avoid drilling solder etc.

Ummm... I wouldn't wire two pedals tap-tempo inputs in parallel. You might be OK but it is possible that great damage could be done, depending on how each pedal implements external tap-tempo.

A safer way to do it would be to use a separate set of contacts on the switch. Assuming the existing switch is SPDT (3 lugs) you might need to buy a DPDT (6 lug) switch. If the existing switch is DPDT (6 lug) but only one side of it is being used, you will be able to use the other side.

I have my Nova, M9, and 2 DD5's on on T1M mini tap and it's fine. Only problem is that the M9 is NC while the others are NO so I have to tap fluently to get them exactly in sync.

Can you explain what NC vs NO means?

I've done this by modding a junction box I made. Basically I had two IN and two OUT jacks and basically rewired it so that I could plug one Boss FS5U into the 'junction box' and send the signal to both OUT A and B which were connected to two delay pedals.

The Digitech switch you mentioned could be rewired, but I think it'd be easier to do what bufferz said and just use a splitter... that said, drilling and soldering would look a bit cleaner IMO...

Drilling and soldering would take 10 minutes and would indeed be cleaner. Easy enough.

Normally closed vs normally open (switch contacts)

This. When the pedals receiving the signal are opposite, I have to tap and release at exactly the same interval (to open and close the circuit). Took practice but NBD now.

Got it. Thanks.

There are simpler, cheaper options but if you want something with multiple isolated outs that can solve NO/NC issues for you without having to tap in a special way, and that can also handle pedals with latching tap-logic, this is the best I've found.

*Disclaimer* I don't own one yet so can't speak to the company but I will at some point.

He also has some interesting upcoming projects on the home page:

Yea, that's my next purchase when I have some spare cash.

sounds interesting... I'm curious to how they'll turn out.
