Not nearly as interesting as the cosmic significance of a previously deceased man standing in front of me...

Not sure, but he's probly the only person that would be able to convince Dave Fox to bring back the Captain Coconut.

Jimi was a good-looking guy, but I don't know if he's model material.

As much as I love Jimi, the dude could have really used good tuner pedal when he played live.

If Jimi was still alive today, I don't think we'd be looking at the guitar the same way...

That said, I would agree with whoever said he'd be into digital/modeling stuff. He was always advancing and I'm sure he wouldn't be chasing the tones he was making in 1967...

If Jimi were to come back from the dead today, he would be screaming for an eighties-era shred guitar. He'd need the pointy headstock to pry the lid off the coffin.

Maybe this should be in a separate thread, but I often wonder what he would have done had he lived....through:

'70s / punk / disco era?

'80s new wave / hair bands? reaction to EVH (would there be an EVH with a similar impact?) SRV? <name your player, band, genre>...

'90s grunge/death metal?

what would have been different? what would have given to us? we'll never know. but it is interesting to consider (IMO)

I'm sure he'd have had a D*mble or several that could be out and about on the used market. :)

Probably be given one of everything from just about any manufacturer too.

haha! totally true.

i bet he'd have a blast with a looper or a fancy digital delay.

In the 70's Jimi Hendrix would have played music like Parliament Funkadelic

Discount? You're a prouder man than I am. I'd be throwing my pedals at him left and right. :roll

So - I'm playing a NYC wedding with my friend Russ. It's a big money event - rich people everywhere. This guy with a bad hair piece comes up to the band stand - he's drunk, having a good time, and it turns out he owns the liquor store Russ frequents. So they chat, he meets the band, everything is wonderful and he tells Russ - next time you come to my store, whatever you want, you get the MAXIMUM discount. Russ goes there the next week and the guy blows him off. So Russ introduces himself and the guy remembers -and he applies the discount to Russ's order. Russ walks out saving $5 on $85 worth of booze. You get MAXIMUM discount! (it's an inside joke for the band - every time we see a guy with a bad wig we say MAXIMUM discount). I guess you had to be there...

I believe he would have:

- built up the courage to finally tell his Purple Haze/Foxy Lady fans to piss off
- learned jazz & made it his bitch
- produced a string of fantastic albums, followed by some embarrassing fusion collaborations in the '80s
- disappeared for awhile
- shunned the consumeristic guitarist craze
- recorded a tome of fantastic works again towards the end as Johnny Cash did
- died simultaneously from an STD and being run down by a drunken, disgruntled, and nostalgic classic rock fan.:)

I think he would like some of crazier electro-harmonix pedals like the synth ones and the pog etc

He would have a great collection from dam, analogman, pete cornish, germino, as well as rare vintage gear. He would have the best.. and plenty of fuzz!

He was original and very true to himself.. I dont think he would have sacrificed tone to achieve more noise just so he could be different. HE was different.. his gear couldnt hide that anyway.

He wouldnt have got very far from whats real and toneful. To think he would be playing a solid state amp and a gt-3 effects unit makes me shudder.

I know this is kinda against the purpose of this thread, but I think he would be a guitar, cable, and amp sort of guy. I think he would take a more organic approach of manipulating his sound just with his picking/fingering.

With that said, I would give him a handful of the pedals I could never bond with, and have him set me straight!!
