I have dreaded this but since being a member here, I have met so many others that share my admiration for animals - specifically our pups.
It's with the heaviest of hearts that I tell you that I lost one of, if not the very best friend I've ever had.
At 4:44am on 5/2/12, my Sadie passed. She passed peacefully, in my arms after sharing 15 yrs with me. I've never hurt this much in the 43 yrs I've been alive. She is horribly and helplessly missed already.
RIP my sweetheart.

The love for a Dog is very unique, as they only want to please us, protect us, and love us......and ask very little in return. It's so sad that they have such a short time with us.....
I'm sorry for your loss.
Losing a dog is like losing a family member. RIP your sweet puppy.

So so sorry. I'm dreading the same pain with my big boy Django...the French got it right with the poetic expression for the love grown by a dog when they refer to it as la bete de chagrin--- the beast that will make you weep.

Thank you for posting the picture for me eddy. Mobile photobucket didn't give me the img link to do it.
I'm so very appreciative to all of you for such thoughtful words. My Sadie deserves such things to be said about, her for certain. She was a beautiful girl and enjoyed every moment of her 15 yrs. Needless to say, my life has been profoundly enhanced by being given the chance to care for and love her.
Sadie has a sister and three brothers that along with myself, miss her horribly. Weir, my 14 yr old Rotti mix that has spent every day of his life right next to her is clearly in pain and sad but I'm trying to spend as much time as I can with him.
Thank you all. This is one of the most difficult things I've ever experienced. Your words help more than I can possibly express with a simple 'thank you' but please know I appreciate it.
Very sorry for your heartbreaking loss...I pray that my pups will leave me the same way your Sadie did, peacefully and in my arms.

So sorry to hear this.
We just lost our Rosie suddenly a couple of weeks ago and Vinny is even older. He's about 15, and while we keep telling ourselves we're more prepared for him to go, I know it's going to hurt just as much.

It's one of the toughest things to go through in life. When you are ready, get another dog. It won't replace Sadie but it helps to love your new dog. My lab
Lucy has been gone for almost six years and as much as I love our Henry, I still get choked up thinking about her. Give them the best life you can and that's all we can do.

....I'm sad and feel your pain.
You have no idea though that in your darkest moment how precious it was that you were there with her for her final breath. I can't imagine having to take a puppy to a vet to have it put down because they're suffering and it's the "humane" thing to do, I just can't. So in that respect you were fortunate......it's hard to let go, I know.

You guys have said very nice things to help me. This is very hard for me but I'm comforted by your posts - thanks.
I'm sitting here being driven absolutely crazy by four insane pooches. Aside from the obvious, I wouldn't change a thing. These dogs are having a blast and I'm taking it all in. It's getting a little late for all this noise but ya know what? ...
F*** it!!! I may turn an amp on too!!!
Thnks much guys!

They are all special and have our deep love.
Sometimes we are extra blessed and one comes along that turns out to be the love of our lives.
Be thankful and glad in that and know that you gave her all of the love that you had.
Good girl Sadie!

Sorry man, one of life's cruelest moments. We had two dogs die last fall and a total of five in our marriage. We've got pictures of them everywhere, I never want to forget what they looked like. Just yesterday I heard that song, "I will remember you...Will you remember me". I looked at each of our dog pictures while it was playing. I choked up a bit. To be honest, I'd never want to stop feeling bad about not having them.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. As a group, dogs are simply the finest beings a human could be fortunate enough to bond with. We lost Miss Becki Blue last year, and I feel your loss. Best wishes.

One of the hardest things we ever went though. losing a much-loved pet.
15 years is a big chunk of life together.
I don't expect anything I say would really help, but my thoughts and prayers are with you now.
It hurts, many of us have been there. A loving loyal dog really does become your best friend. In time, pain of loss will pass, but you will never forget the bond you had with that special friend.
The years of joy Sadie brought into your life will always far outweigh the pain you are going through now.
Peace.

so sorry for your loss. she looked like a sweetie.
She was a sweetie - dog kisses and a wagging tail, always. At the same time, she was half pitbull and had a nasty temper should she be pushed far enough - even as small as she was. I've broken up some pretty gnarly battles between her and my Rotti and my other pit/lab mix. That was a good thing at times because she would pretty much make the other four (Weir, Coco, Bosco, and Esau) behave themselves. Most often she would just approach them and not fight. More often than not, just her presence would stop the others from doing anything. I think they knew she was a badass. :) and it was best not to "test" her.
She is definitely missed and Im still having a hard time. People probably think Im crazy but this is really difficult.
Thank you all so much for your kindness.

My dog passed away in 2000. I still havent been able to get another. Mainly because of living in apartments, but it really is painful when they die. Hope you are startng to feel a little better.
I am really sorry to hear about your loss. We had to put our boy down due to Osteosarcoma and it was extremely hard on us. We know we did the right thing but I cried like a little kid. It was 5 years ago and I still miss him very much. We got another dog shortly after and that helped, but it was still very, very hard. I know what you are going through and it does get better but I definitely understand how hard it is.
Anyone that acts like it is no big deal or that you are crazy for being so upset about it is not a person I want to be around! Your response to this simply means you are a good person and that you care deeply. There is definitely nothing crazy about that! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

When I was about 16 and my big german shepherd Vicksie died , it was like losing a member of the family and I was heartbroken. She was the warmest and most loving big slob you ever did see and I still think of her 26 years later and know exactly how you feel bilbal.

Very sorry for your loss man.
No, you are not crazy. I've gone through this a few times myself, and it can be terribly hard.
The one thing that always makes me feel a bit better is the fact that I attended all the times at the vet when they were put down. I like to feel they were comforted by the fact that someone who loved them so much was with them at the end. They are all buried on our property.
