I have heard nothing but great things about GVCG and Johanthan's work.
So....
Tell me about your GVCG and be specific, and if you had one and got rid of it ...why?

I am the proud owner of the 63 "Dirty Olympic white" Strat Replica that is pictured on the site.I t is hands down the best sounding strat in my stable. It Looks, feels, and sounds like an old guitar. The neck is the most comfortable, best feeling neck I've ever experienced on a strat. The only mod I made to it, was to have my tech replace the 3 way with a 5 way. I no longer lust for other Strats......this guitar is the one for me.!
I just sold my GVCG 63 LPB Tele replica to a fellow TGPR. It was an amazing Tele, but I'm just not a Tele player, and was overtaken by GAS when I ordered it.

Hey Prsflame,
Sounds nice. I am currently working on getting a "T" model that is similar the the '60 slab that is listed on website directly above yours. I has a compound radius fretboard 7.25 to 9.5 and weighs in at 5 lbs. 15 ozs. According to Jonathan it's the lightest "T" he has ever made. Its schedules to arrive by the weekend.
Hey, skeeterbuck-- proud owner of 3 GVCG's here. The "Ultimate '55" Tele, a '57 Tele, and a '54 Strat. Been playing for 20 years, and these are the "best" guitars I've ever owned. There's just no better Fender type guitar in my opinion (haven't played a Lentz, tho). Jonathan works some kind of magic into his guitars-- they're all just magnificent, the necks especially. My Ultimate '55 was the first, then I found the other two. I didn't think it was possible, but I like the other two just as much. They play, feel and sound fantastic-- I truly look forward to playing each of them at the end of the day. Hard to explain, but no other guitars I've played have felt so substantial and "organic". I've sold all my other guitars and don't miss them a bit. Check out my review of the Ultimate '55 in the Reviews section for some detail.

I bought the first Inca pictured on the site ( w/ the Princeton ) and it was MAGICAL. Times got tough and I had to sell a bunch of gear and sold that Inca to Glenn Pearce ( aka Stealth on TGP ). He loves it - there's NO WAY he's selling it back. An absolutely KILLER
I NEVER should have sold that tele. Several of my friends played it and ordered one soon after. It is a GREAT GREAT guitar
The GOOD news is I have a blonde T style on order - and I pray DAILY that its as good as that Inca
The BAD news is it's not ready yet ( I was told by "the holidays"...hhmmm I just realized I was never told WHICH Holidays..damn )
I'm gonna sit by the door:rolleyes:

i have a '55 blond tele w/ hamels and a '63 sunburst strat w/ lollars. they are both magical guitars. i have played many high $$$$$$$ vintage fenders that i would not choose over a GVCG. plus they look really really cool.

Blonde '59 T Slab with Hamels, bought on TGP about a month ago. Without doubt my favorite guitar. I have been playing for over 15 years and have owned many high end guitars. I will probably be buried with this one.
The problem is now I want a GVCG S type guitar... lol

I can really appreciate Jonathan's attention to detail. I like the way that your Esquire has the outline around the bridge plate showing where the "ashtray" bridge cover would have been. I am partial to "T" models. His "relic work appears to be more credible that the Fender Custom Shop models. I have also heard that his setup work is second to none. Here is a link to the one I'm waiting on.

Hey George,
Is that the one with the pine body? How would you say it differs from ash or alder?
I have always thought that the esquires were cool in the way that if you use the ashtray bridge cover, the pickup is hidden. Makes you think that the sound from the strings is picked up by some type of magic.
The other neat thing is the wiring on them with the one position wired directly to the output jack bypasing the controls.

Umm, why is there slotted and phillips head screws on that blonde esquire? Is that period correct?
skeeterbuck
10-21-2005, 06:58 AM
Yea pokey,
I think that is correct. I believe that this was the time period when Fender was changing over from slotted head screws to philips head screws. As Leo was not a man to waste anything, the slotted screws would be used until gone.
It is my understanding that Jonathan is a fanatic about these details. If you look on his website he even ages the control cavity and uses period correct caps. I would bet that he has seen original examples that reflect this combination.;)

Mine is actually Oak.
Quoting Jonathan...
"It's built around a lightweight 1 piece vintage Oak body, this wood was over 50 years old,
it's dry, dense and highly resonant. It reminds me a lot of ash in it's sonic character,
with perhaps a more dense midrange, and a very tight bottom end. It is meatier than Pine,
and not as dark as Alder."
The tone of this guitar is truly something to behold.
Through the Constellation it sounds like angels. Really.

Inca Silver 63 T
One of best T models I have played the whole body vibrates throught the neck, it is a monster to play there is no ice pick here it will rock with the best (best played loud and raw)
When swithched to the neck pick some very passable jazz tones can be coaxed needless to sat that I'm a Telecaster man and Jonathans work can not be faulted as have two more on order I'm that impressed.
He is a superb guy to deal with and will help with anything that you require and gives good advice as to your requirements.

I have a GVCG Oly White '61 slab "S" ANd a Fender 62 reissue strat(1983) that Jonathan built a neck for after a local shop killed the OG neck on it's third refret.. Both are loaded with a combo of Hamels and Lollars and medium sized frets.. Best strats I've ever played.. I'm glad that shop killed the old neck!.....
One day I'd like to own a maple neck GVCG "S"after listening to that Trower video...
Jonathan is very cool to deal with...
You don't have to worry about scratching them either:D

Got my gvcg model "T" on friday and have been playing it all weekend.
All I can say that it is the all out best tele style guitar that I have ever played. It is so light, that when you pick it up it feels that your lifting a piece of balsa wood rather than ash.
The tone is fantastic, and that's before you plug it in. :D
It has Lollar alnico 5 pickups and the tone is totally vintage twang! It's my understanding that these pickups were custom wound by Jason for this guitar. Jonathan work is amazing. If I didn't know, I would think that it was an original '60 tele.

First of all thanks! No, it isn't the typical "blond", it was a special request. I had a picture of a yellow'd "60 Esquire that I had him copy, I emailed a picture to him, he nailed it. He said it took him quite a while do get it right. It's not quite as dark as it appears in the pictures, they do not do it justice.....

All of Jonathan's blonde finishes are too cool. I think that Cliff C. told me that the this color maybe Jonathan's favorite. His white blonde is what he referes to as "mediun rare".... indicating that it has that kinda pinkish hue towards the center that you see on the old original tele's. I have not seen any others makers that do this when they do this color.
Also, I couldn't agree more that his guitars cover the whole spectrum of tones and styles.
Hey Dave O....
I know that you had to sell your Lentz that you loved, but maybe down the road you'll be able to hook up with a new love a GVCG. I pretty sure that if you do, it will make you forget that lost love.:AOK

My brother owns the 1958/65 Blonde Telecaster on the site (about halfway down) and it is a killer guitar!
Jonathan was already working on that tele when my brother won the '65 neck on ebay. When he brought the neck to the shop to give Jonathan he found out that Jonathan was the 2nd high bidder on it! Needless to say they both loved the neck...the look, the feel, the feel, the look...
Anyway, Jonathan is an artist, a player and a great guy.
The 58/65 is a work of art...and with the lollar pups it's the best work of art I've ever heard or played.
Funny thing is, if you click one of the 58/65 pictures you see my bro's name in the pic address....

I haven't gotten the new Lollars yet. I just ordered them today.
I got the Voodoos from Dan so I was just putting out a feeler in case I like the new Lollars better than the Voodoos. The Hamels and the Lollars sounded very similar to me. The Voodoos are darker and more aggressive to me. Although I play for a country artist, I go for a rock sound. Dan was asking me awhile back if I wanted to sell him back the Voodoos. I might just keep them for future reference. Maybe put them on my other Tele.

hey dan- that maple neck 72 looks familiar;) I'm taking good care of her. She is a killer, bro.
As for Jonathan, he is a great guy. I met up with him a few times when he was in NY, I was hip to him before he was "discovered".
I have a sonic blue strat that he built for me; its on his site. All the parts are off a real 1962 (he marks it a s 1963 on his site) strat, including the neck, except for the hamels and the guard. (The hamels KILL). I don't think he uses the hamels anymore cuz they are hard to get. Jon did a KILLER job. I've got a couple real vintage strats and you couldn't tell the difference. Jon is a true masterbuilder.
I would link the pic of the sonic blue, but i can't get to his site with the pics...
