Can anyone tell me what frets are used on Gibson R8's? I have a couple of LP Standards and a 335 and 339? Are they the same or smaller? The pics I have seen of the R8 appear to have smaller thinner frets than the Standards and the 339 (which I really like). I have been GAS'ing for an R8 despite the fatter neck. If it also has small frets, I should probably give up. Not a lot of R8's for sale around here so a test drive is difficult....

Long & McQuade always has reissues in stock. Go try one. All reissue Les Pauls have the same frets.

I have experience where R9s were different than R8s.

The only ones with different size fret wire are the Jimmy Page RI's. All other RI's have the same size. However, before 2000, they were narrower, so a 2005 R9 would have bigger frets than a 1998 R8.

Are they the same as the Les Paul Standards?

The Long and McQuade in Burlington does not have R8's on a regular basis. It's been a long time since I've seen one in there. I'll have to venture out to Toronto...

Thanks I appreicate this response. Very helpful. Still I guess I'll have to try them as suggested, but this definitely helps.

Looks like they are wider and not as tall as the Standards...
