This guy is already one of my favorite guitarist/songwriters who I could never even dream of emulating on my best day playing guitar. But then just checking out some vids on YT (I miss you playing live John!) I find this:

There is SO MUCH going on in this version of Neon. He is just electric in this solo acoustic performance. Around the 5 minute mark it gets crazy. This guy is just riffing improvisation. Who does this stuff?

Thank you John, for your music and your talent.

and right before that bass slapping part at 5, he riffs in Tom's Diner, haha!

He just bought a place here. He has been hanging around our local music store.

I have gotten a few excited calls from my buddies who work there.

Yup. He bought a big spread in Paradise Valley.

He's been bumming around Bozeman all spring.

Oh, hundreds or more..... Nice to hear this type of rhythmic idea in some mainstream. Great clip though. One of my fave Mayer clips I have heard.

It did seem to be a worked out riff he has practiced though. Maybe something inspired by Tomo, his Berklee teacher who does a lot of slap stuff.

That was great! Man how I would love to see JM and JB sitting around picking some acoustics and feeding off one another. That'd be a hell of a jam session!

I really like his older stuff best. To be able to play like that AND sing is pretty cool.

I miss him about as much as I miss Jimi. Had lunch with Mr. Hedges on two occasions. So quiet and humble.
