View Full Version : Say a guy wanted a Les Paul with a Jazzmaster/Jag style tremolo....

...would that make him a bad person? And what would he do about that anyway? Sure, there are Bigby and the trem on the axess guitars, but...eh. Its not the same.

Nothing wrong with that inclination. I'm sure it could be done, but it would be tough with a carved top. I almost put one on a Melody Maker.

There's also the newer "Shred" model LP guitars with Floyds.
Kahler's have appeared on LPs in the past (both from the factory and otherwise), and some folks have put Wilkinson type trems on them. All require routing. The Jag style seems to be designed around a flat top guitar, so there'd be some modification necessary to put one on a carved-top LP, but not so much on a flat-top LP.

I've said it before elsewhere, but this thing is really, really cool.
Firebird/Jazzmaster hybrid would rule my face.

and OP, beyond the carved top issue, I just think the proportions would be weird
with a Fender offset trem on an LP because of how far the trem is set back from the bridge.
I feel you, though - I much prefer a Jag/JM trem to any other kind.

I had to look at this pic for a moment to see what was hybrid about it. It just looked so natural.

Thanks for the various replies, folks!

I did come across this Schaller Les Paul bolt on tremolo (which I purchased). I'll toss it on the SG (which it should fit), and see how it holds up. Again, its a direct bolt on. No modifications to the guitar, so that's good. There are springs on the underside. I will see if I can find a pic.

It would take some work, but I'm sure could be done. Plenty of wood there to work with.
Here's the opposite...I wonder how they sank that thing in with such a thin body??

What's Matt Damon doing with an SG? It kind of looks good, though.
In general, seems like a good modification for, say, a 70's bolt on Les Paul like an Ibanez or Hondo. Something I'd not feel too bad about changing

Yeah, I can see that. Maybe that's part of the reason the Bigsby is used so much.

I'd probably slap him - hard, once or twice across the face, grab him by his lapels, shake him a couple of times, and then get right up in his grill and yell "snap out of it!!".

Ron, I was going to say "too bad for me I can't afford your work", but after looking around (ie drooling over) your site, I can see that's just not true. I mean, I'd have to sock away for a bit, but you have amazingly fair pricing for hand built guitars.

Its a good thing I didn't inquire about that Strat body with an Ibanez Wizard neck.
