Congrats.

First, I'd recommend getting some sleep. You're gonna need it. Easier said than done in a hospital recliner/couch/etc.

Also try to make sure you're "in the moment" when it all goes down. The nurse almost had to yell at me so I'd take a picture of my daughter with my wife. I was still a bit in shock at the miracle of life. I told her excuse me it's not every day I see a human pop out of my wife's hoodeehoo! I guess sometimes they can get a little desensitized to it all helping birth multiple children everyday.

Really there isn't much you can do at this point except pray and support your wife.

Make sure you buy a diaper genie, it will keep the stinky diaper smells at bay.

Word of advice: Don't take a picture of your wife with two breast pumps on her boobs.

And if you do, don't show her family members.

Modern L&D uses pitocin, nubain, +/- epidural. The days of ketamine/Innovar are long gone. If I could offer advice, get an epidural only as a last resort. I'm sure she'll be fine, congrats.

I was up for like 32 hours when my son was born, quite exhausting to say the least. You can imagine how it was for the one doing all the work....

And good luck, and stay above her waistline. You don't want to see what going on down there ;)

Oh come on it's not that bad. When it is your wife and kid it is different. Don't be scared to look unless you are really squeamish.

Congrats! You will go through an endless supply of diapers so stock up. Also stock up on sleep when you can. If you and the wifey are going to share night duty, I'd recommend picking the same time every night for both of you. You'll each come to cherish the time that you know is yours for sleep. Shower your new child with all they love it deserves and do the same for your wife....you'll be paid back in spades.

Good luck man! Ours was born 4 months 2 days ago - he too was 2 weeks late so was induced and showed up on the 15th day past due date. If the wife needs an epidural, do it. Nothing at all heroic about going without if it's needed, whatever gets the job done best for mum and baby is best all round.

Enjoy it - it's a completely fantastic occasion, will leave you feeling jaded and on cloud 9 simultaneously. :)

So the induction started 8pm Monday. Tuesday am at 7:30 the contraction meds started and at 1:19am this morning our 10lb 2oz 2 week overdue boy Ryan came on out screaming his head off. That was great, stressful, exhausting and exhilarating all together.

Congratulations! 10 lbs is a whopper. My only suggestion - breast feeding. That bundle of joy will suck the baby weight gain right off the mom. At night instead of messing with bottles and formula you just change a diaper and give him to Mom. WAY easier. He gets better nutrition, she gets to eat ice cream every day, and you don't have to mess with formula.

Finally home today. What a rollercoaster.

You don't realize how big 10 lbs is until you compare to others in the nursery. Can't wait till the sleep gets better. I slept a total of 10 hours since Monday 7am. It's worth it though

i cant say this is easy. damn am i tired. plus with feedings every 2 - 3 hours it's really rough for my wife. at least i can skip one feeding and get a good 4 hours of sleep a day plus maybe an hour nap or so during the day. she doesn't get any of that until we introduce bottles into the equation. i haven't don't much guitar playing. but at least i can sit on the cough and spend some bonding time with him watching some music dvd's and the blackberry smoke concert i DVR'd off of paladia!!!

Well in your case you are correct. I tell it like it is, my kid looked like Willie Nelson had sex with a buffalo when she was born... fortunately it was temporary and she's a gorgeous young lady. But man she was a little hard on the eyes when she was born!

he is actually the happiest and easiest baby i know of. my wife takes him upstairs around 7:30-8:30 every night. right about when he gets cranky. he's asleep in like 10 minutes. and sleeps until at least 6am. sometimes we have to wake him to get ready for day care. and about an hour after he eats and gets up, he's ready for his first nap
