Here is Jerry doing "Hey Joe", followed by a couple of collaborations; one with Leo Kottke, one with Bela Fleck (from quite a while back) and finally a super cover of Simon & Garfunkel's The Boxer (featuring Paul Simon and Mumford and Sons) off his latest album "Traveler"

Thanks for posting. A few months back, Jerry did a workshop at our local acoustic shop. There were only 20 or so of us in the audience, with me in the front row. He's a great player, who always plays tasty, not necessarily flashy (although he can certainly do that too).

Cool guy too. I've seen him a handful of times and he always delivers. One night a long time ago he played a club here (which is about 120 miles from Nashville) with Peter Rowan. I came in late and had to sit at the merch table, which was being staffed by his wife Jill. We got to talking and she invited me back to meet JD after the show, where we proceeded to do a couple of tequila shots. I think it was a mid-week night but they were away from home without their kids and wanted to go out for a little while. There weren't many options for post-show, mid-week bars back then so I took them to my favorite little beer bar/garden and we sat outside for a couple of hours drinking beer and talking about all kinds of stuff.

Because I was a regular at the bar, I ended up seeing several people I knew. I introduced a few of them to Jerry and Jill and always said "Jerry is the most famous Dobro player in the world!" The reply was the same every time: "Cool. What's a Dobro?" :D That sticks in my mind because even at that pre-AKUS point in time I probably owned at least 50 CD's where Jerry was featured or appeared as a guest. So much for the fame and fortune of a career in bluegrass!

Funny story, and a cool night for you. It's weird how someone is so famous in their field and completely unknown out of it. JD is just incredible on dobro. He's so good it makes me want to try to play it...

I love Jerry's playing. There's something about it that always gets me every time. My favorite of his has always been his performance on Charlie Haden's (Pat Metheny arranged) version of The Fields of Athenry. I've been digging his new album traveler, from which The Boxer is on. Truly a world class player.

I had the pleasure of playing with JD and Mumford and Sons a few months back. Jerry is one funny guy. Very humble, unassuming, and just a great guy to chill with.

He was showing me this new iPhone app that super-imposes a missle launch and detonation over a video. He showed me, while doubled over laughing, how many times he "blew up" Marcus Mumford from the Ryman, offstage.

"Hey, Jeremy you gotta see this app...."

And a great lap steel player as well. His playing on the Dirt Band's "The Rest of the Dream" is stellar.

My favorite is his work with Viktor Krauss, especially on Viktor's tunes. It really lets him stretch out a bit.

JD's technique is just ridiculous(ly good). What really sets him apart for me is his great sense of melody. The man really makes very moving music!

That's a great disc.

Jerry is simply the best dobro player I've ever heard. He's amazing.

Saw him last with Viktor Krauss and Omar Hakim (Weather Report). Wow!

And funny... "More sensimilla in the monitors, please."
