What does it mean when my power switch flickers?

Sometimes, when I flick the standby to "on", the light goes out of the master but mostly flickers if at all.

Is this a power problem in my place or possibly just a switch replace?
I cant check it and its an old house.

What if you just smack the side of the amp closest to the power switch? Does it flicker then?

Humourous comments above, BUT

REPLACE Power and Standby Switchs NOW. Have seen many failures of this type, especially in later 60's and 70's/80's Carling in Fenders.
