I have a 2 prong 1968 Alamo Challenger that I'd like to put a power cord on it that would ground it and be secure. I have a 30 watt soldering iron, and cheap solder, but nothing else. Are there instructions somewhere on this probably common and important mod for old amps? Also, where would I get the 3 prong cord or such, or whatever else I may need.

Read this guys little "faq" on replacing the power cord...

This guy has some nice tech info in the library of information too...

Carlton, on the new cord you should have a white, a black and a green wire. The black wire goes to one side of the fuse holder, the other side of the fuse holder goes to the On/Of switch, then from there to one side of the power transformer primary. The white wire goes to the other side of the power tranny primary. The green wire gets connected to the chassis, the best way to do this is to connect it to one of the power tranny's mounting bolts using a crimp on or soldered on lug that will fit the bolt. You can solder the wire straight to the chassis, but your 30 watt iron may not give enough heat to do this, so attaching it to the tranny bolt is probably best.
Hope that helps,

Agree with Hasserl. Hoffman's instructions do not address the typical Fender boo-boo of switching one leg of the PT primary and fusing the other.
Here's the right way:
