View Full Version : Tweed vs. BF circuits

Somewhat reciently i picked up a Lil Dawg Top Dawg. It's a 4x10 1959 Tweed 5F6A bassman replica. I added a NOS tube in v1 and sounds great. Really nice amp. It's my first real experience with any kind of tweed circuit.

With my BF Band Master and drip edge Twin when I click on my compressor (which I use as a boost mostly) or the boost on my j-drive its a clean boost. With the tweed it pushes the amp so it's a little dirty - it sounds great and seems natural just not what I was looking for with that pedal.

So with that said, is that a natural characteristic of these types of amps?

Do tweed circuits overload easier or are pushed quicker than BF circuits?

Tweeds are dirtier in general so I'd say that what you're experiencing is normal.
