I made a little video clip of this song's intro. It's a little lesson aimed for players who are still learning the basic stuff. I did it for a guitar student, but I thought I'd put it on my website to see what kind of feedback I get.

Check it out and let me know what you think!
Thanks,

Rotren,
Very nice...I learned something! (now could you do that for all the other things that I don't know but would like to learn? I'll send you a list :) )

Nice. I play the first phrase on the 1st and second strings, but your way looks like it has more economy of movement. I'll give it a try.

Awesome! I've been playing it differently for years but I'm going to learn your version, it sounds great. :)

Nice! Always enjoyed that; never played it.
Who played it originally with Van Morrison?
Best, Pete.

That song has such a great pop guitar sound. The double stop intro you show is a classsic; good choice of material, clearly demonstrated.

Thanks guys! I don't know who played in on guitar with Van Morrison, but it's a good player - lots of nice fills througout the song.

I may be mistaken, but I believe I read, somewhere, that it was Jimmy Page, playing all the fills.

Ha, Ha that's a good one! It's said on the internet that he played on "Hurdy Gurdy Man" too and he didn't.....
It's one of these four:
Eric Gale
Al Gorgoni
Hugh McCracken
Don Thomas
Who all played on these sessions.
Best, Pete.

Pretty exacting replication of the original. The only thing I do differently is at the end to catch the root note (D note using the D string) of the D chord in the pickup notes just prior to the beginning of the repeat for the second time through the intro.
The exact piece of that ending phrase would be to play a double-stop using the D and B strings, finishing out the pickup notes on the G string.
Nice job.

Brown Eyed girl is Hugh McCracken on guitar. Also check out his playing on "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan and the rhythm guitar on B.B. King's recording of "The Thrill is Gone"

Thanks, Bill. Is that also Hugh on "Domino"???????
He also played throughout Paul McCartney's "RAM".
Best, Pete.

That's very cool - simpler than the version I have played for years, sounds better to my ear even. You learn something every day... Thanks!

This is a great example of why lessons don't hurt anyone. I've traveled probably two unneccesary miles on the fretboard playing it the wrong way for years.
Thanks!

Great to hear the feedback! I'm planning on doing a lesson on how to play SRV's "Mary Had A Little Lamb" next. I'll post a message on here when it's up.
