Okay everybody, boys and girls, guys and gals, ladies and gents… Welcome to Non-Digital Tom’s massive official Super Spectacular Winter NAMM 2006 thread. I was fortunate to be able to attend this year, and I spent all day Friday and Saturday seeing the sights and taking lots of pictures to show you all. All the pics in this thread were taken with my own camera by me (except the ones I’m in, of course).
First off, I have to say I didn’t even see half of what was there – it was HUGE, overwhelming even, lots of excitement and activity. So please excuse any glaring omissions in my coverage – I’ll do better next time, I promise! There are so many people I missed, booths I didn’t make it to, etc. But I did manage to cover quite a bit in my short stay, so here it is – ENJOY!
Warning – I have 188 pictures I’m going to post

One of the highlights of my NAMM experience was meeting Adrian Belew. I’ve been a fan for many years and was unbelievably psyched when he agreed to write the Foreword to Analog Man’s Guide To Vintage Effects. Adrian was kind enough to autograph my personal copy of the book at the show.

Fun at the Foxx booth. These guys were great and I ended up staying for a long time, just jammin’ out. Foxx is introducing two new pedals in March – the Fuzz Wa & Volume and the Foot Phaser. They sounded great – I can’t wait! I put in my order right then and there at the show, so I’ll have them as soon as they’re available.

I had a pretty hard time getting any pics or info because the booth was totally mobbed by these hoodlums, all wearing (get this) Homebrew Electronics visitor badges! Access was almost completely blocked off by these jokers loitering around the front. They definitely were not doing HBE any favors…

This chick was a serious shredder. She did lots of sweeping arpeggio stuff and some pretty involved tappity tapping too. And she’s also kinda cute (at least I thought so). She played so effortlessly she almost seemed bored. Anyone know who this is?

Check it out – the Buchla Electric Music Box! Lots of really cool, far out, blippy, bloopy sounds emanating from this booth. And OMG, look at all the freakin’ knobs and switches! I LOVE IT!

It took me a long time to get some decent shots 'cause this fat kid kept getting in my way. He was there for a long time and he literally blocked off two entire consoles…

Ah, here we go… synth gas anyone? These things supposedly will set you back $10,000 to $20,000.

Well, that’s it! Hope you all got a big vicarious kick out of it – it sure was a lot of work putting this together. It’ll probably end up on my website at some point soon. Please remember, the pictures and commentary here reflect my own personal experience – your mileage may vary. :dude

It's interesting how snobbery can kill your interest in a product. It's like what conceit does to beauty...kills it dead. That's too bad Victoria and BadCat snubbed you. Word of mouth really is the best advertising, but if it's a negative...watch out, that spreads like cancer.
Anyway, thanks again for the pics and info. That was by far the best collections of NAMM pics I have ever seen.

This guy was doing some big time shredding with a lot of tappity tap harmonics stuff.
http://formusiciansonly.com/pics/NAMM2006/126MattiasFreak.jpg
His name is Mattias "IA" Ekhlund from the band Freak Kitchen. (His name is on the big screen behind him in the pic too. LOL)
And yes- he's big into shred-fu and all the kooky harmonics and tremolo work.
Thanks for the slideshow, Tom. Great stuff!
Next year stop by the AllParts booth. :)

Mattias and Freak Kitchen are great! Imaginative and lyrical guitar playing, and I've never heard someone bust out such crazy harmonics. I might post a little clip later on, and give you guys a chance to hear a snippet of his playing. :dude
What a great thread this is. Kudos to the picture snapper! :)
Hi Tom,

Yeah, I think that is Nokie Edwards... he is one BAD ASS guitar player.
I started playing guitar with the Ventures (in the 90s)... absolutely great stuff. I rarely "venture" into that territory these days, but every so often I do and I still love it.
I work at a restaurant in Nashville and waited on Nokie and some of his friends. He was recording an album of Beatles covers. We talked for a little bit, he signed a card for me and even took me out to his rental SUV to listen to a couple of fresh tracks from the then-unreleased (or still unreleased? Not sure...) album of Beatles songs. That was a good night at work... I've met Trey Anastasio, Cypress Hill, and a bunch of country stars that I don't keep up with at work. I missed Neil Young by one lousy shift.

That was FUN! Thanks! I'm SO glad about my Orange purchase... today!!!! And especially after reading that they were right to you. You know, that says a lot. That vibe gets in there, I don't care if it's unsubstantiated hoodoo voodoo.... there's a vibe in the machine and that's that! Thanks man. You deserve a book sale for this thread. Look for a Pickhead order soon!

No, there was a lot I missed. I still can't believe I didn't check out Diamond Pedals. :jo
And what did you learn about those new Demeter trems....What's the 'Tremtilator' trem/vibrato?
The Demeter Tremulator has been around for a while, but the Stereo Tremulator is fairly new, I think.
