I love my late 60's Traynor YBA-2b (2x6v6), but as good as it sounds, it sounds a bit anemic. I run it through a Red Fang (pretty efficient, I think), but the amp really lacks punch and volume. I know it has never been serviced, except for tube replacement by me. I figure it needs caps. About a year ago, I posted a similar thread and got some good info, but life took over and I never acted on it. Now I've lost all feedback and need to ask again.

I will do this myself -- I'm no expert, but I can manage an iron and I'm pretty handy, so with the right CLEAR instruction, I'm sure I can safely do it. BUT, I look in the chassis and I can't tell what caps would need to be replaced and what stays (looks like a bunch of little colored hot dogs to me :().

I've checked the Velvet Balck link, but could not find what I was looking for. Anybody out there with some info??

If you can't tell which caps are the electrolytics in the power supply by looking at them and/or consulting a schematic you may be wiser to just have it redone by a tech. If you build in a fault by accident you may damage it or waste a lot of time troubleshooting.

(If it is your only amp go to a tech. If you are just fooling around start looking at components, schematics and other amps.)

It has the big 'dynamite stick' multisection Mallorys---you can use single Spragues and stack them. As far as punch, did you change the volume pots (4 meg)? Swapping to 1 meg makes a big difference in those amps...

This is an easy job for a tech, but if you can't recognize the filter caps, I wouldn't attempt the job...be safe, get the job done right; take it to a tech.
