What is the best solder to use for connecting a cable to a speaker and a plug? Is WTB 4% silver solder good? Can a 30 Watt iron handle the job?

Thanks for the input!

Almost any rosin core electronics solder will be more than adequate.....silver bearing solder will be overkill but won't hurt a thing unless it's melting point is significantly higher than regular solder. A 30w iron will probably do the job with an appropriately sized tip....try it and see , the solder should flow quickly and thoroughly otherwise you need a bigger tip/iron.

After soldering up a sink in my basement I can confirm that silver bearing solder, which due to local laws must be used on the potable portions of your plumbing system, does indeed melt at a higher temperature. For what its worth, it doesn't make as nice a connection either and as I learned is much more likely to leak water if you're a plumbing newbie like me. I wouldn't use it for electronics work. I do however use the 4% silver electronics solder as a matter of course.

Yeah that is fine if you have it already.

I'd save your money and get some
Kester 44, 63/37 solder.

Doesn't get much better then that
'cept their 2 percent silver bearing solder.

Now you can spend lots more on designer stuff,
and throw your money away.

What TheAmpNerd said-
It's 63/37 here, though I prefer a 40W Weller for speed,though you could do it with a well-tinned-30W-with-a-massive-tip...
