I tried a little different mic position for a change. SM57 about 4" back from the grill, 2" off center. It seems to pick up the top end better.

Artcore AS83, mid position into Dumble clone. Low volume, low gain, reverb/delay in the loop. Quite a few clams, as usual.

That wore me out! Incredible, and the guy has real feel too. Coupla gratuitous things, but Mr. Lane has always been an incredible player. He is missed. "Coltrane Lane"!

Amp or POD Rob, and is that your singlecut PRS , great phrasing and a pleasure to listen to.

OK, now I'm feeling really bad about my take.

Cool playing, Tyrone!!! You pulled me right into your groove and the tone was killer! Nice little Beck touch near the end.

That Shawn Lane video sent me over the top. The shredding was cool, but his treatment of the head was jaw dropping.

Time to do a retake. Not because I screwed up the notes, but because I completely overlooked the feel and groove. :(

Oh, that's the Fuchs OD channel, less gain than the dirty take in the other thread, and also the guitar was turned down a bit. Yes, it's the PRS. I'm lazy, it's in my office! Normally, I'd use my HBII, but I'm experimenting finding settings, etc, w/my newly modded amp.

Thanks adlib and Norm, for the kind words! Fonk is my THANG!

Normster, your take was very relaxed. I admire that, and toneful.
Mentoneman, that's a cool church band! I'd almost wanna get up on Sunday morning and do that!

Here are a couple of several year old, minidisc recorded samples from a basement jam.... Same take. I switched from my ODS100 to the Prosonic Fuchs mod to compare the tone.

really great man! this might be some of the best playing i've heard from you. i love how it sounds like you're reaching around for lines and fishing here and there but it is all still musically hip and very tasty and sassy.

when i start fishing, my backcast often get's stuck in a tree limb, and i "will" inevitably hit notes that make satan gag. :( :dude

Dang Pat! This is the message I get when I try and dload yours...

I'll have to get it from home! Thanks for the nice words on mine!! Nothing like a live jam to get the juices flowing. Backings are soooo uninspiring.

Thanks for the kind remarks, guys. :)

I'll crank the beast up this weekend. Lots of inspiration in this thread...especially the live takes! The rest of my week is shot with family stuff and a pesky amp problem with a friend's amp. ;)

Thanks, John! I'm still discovering tones in this amp. So far, I love the cleans and slightly dirty tone. I'll PM you with contact info just in case you want to chat about the build.

Yeah, well, recording with a real amp late at night, couldn't get it loud enough, so when I normalized it, I got a lot of hiss. Also I think I had my gtr's volume rolled back a bit, instead of using less gain on the amp. Add in 128k conversion to conserve on file size/bandwidth and a smidgeon of operator malfunction and this is the result.

This is why I recorded my rekkid at a real studio so I could just play and let the dude work his magic. Glad you liked the playing, that's what counts! I usually don't get this much hiss, and with my POD I don't get any. But amps are more fun!

mahalo---although compared to shawn lane's rendition, my feeble attempt at a lead conjures up images of a gasping large mouth bass,
laying on it's side,
on a busy hong kong sidewalk.

 :NUTS :D

Man I love this tune, and lots of great versions here.

Here's my take on it on lap steel:
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3588268&q=hi

I added some reverb to make it sound more like a live jam session.

Hope you dig it.
