A friend of mine has stuck a pair in his 68 Goldtop and is happy with them. He prefers them over anything new he has tried, and he's tried most of them.

What they said. I love Wolfes pickups. They have great clarity, and also have a killer vintage vibe. I have one of his Marshallhead winds in my R8, and its phenomenal

I have a custom wind neck and a Marshallhead bridge in some guitars and they sound excellent.

You're right, Carl! I played your guitar yesterday - Roger brought it over. Nice work, my friend!!! I don't know if there's enough neck there, though :D! I liked the way Wolfe's bridge P90 catured the 'spankin'-the-plank' LP Junior vibe - very bluesy, indeed. I still prefer Lollar's neck P90, though. Anyhow, super work on that guitar, Carl. I can't wait to see your next!!

I had Wolfe rewind a pickup for me to be something like his Marshallhead and he custom built a P90 for me...I really like them both. The P90 is much fatter and meaner sounding than the stock Gibson or the Rio Grande I tried in my Les Paul jr. before it. The rewound pickup is also very sweet sounding. Wolfe took Gibson 498 and did just want I wanted with it...I was having problems finding a pickup that really brought out the natural tone of my Gibson ES137.

Glad you dug it, Jack! Yeah, that neck is a teensy bit on the chunky side- no shredding will be done on that one ('cept maybe by Roger, that dude's a freak :D ), but for me, for riffin out & layin down some greasey rhythm, it's nice & comfy.

I have them in my Heatley, with which they came originally. Awesome pickups...never thought of replacing them. Magic tone.

Man, that guitar is all about tone! It's where the neck size comes into play, bigtime. Ain't nothin' wrong with a big fat neck!!! (Unless it's too RED!) :p

Rog says it made yer 'chunky' neck look puny
'N that goombah just had to shred on it for me, on the phone.
It does sound good, tho, don't it?

I use them exclusively in the guitars I build--I love them, all of my customers cream over them, and Wolfe is a great guy to work with and he knows his shit. :AOK

Started looking at Wolfs Caretaker. Anything come to mind, Fred?

Yes....tone!
A caretaker set would sound really well in a R8. What tones are you after?

Vintage PAF, with authority....like the GoodWoods, but enough difference to keep it mixed up...glad to see Wolfs well received. I got to meet him and the Boys at the last Namn.."yo, Big Mike..waz up!!"...
...Wags a classic for sure..I'd love to go sailing with that Man..!!

Southbound,
Get the Marshallhead wind for the hot PAF. These are some of the best pickups I have ever heard besides 2 or 3 sets of original PAF's (really good PAF's at that).

Wolfe is a gentlemen and true artist. You can't go wrong. I also think the Marshallhead can do a heavy modern crunch.

I'm sending a set of Caretakers out to Phil Jacoby today for a basically blank Victor Baker 335 unfinished guitar I just got off of Ebay. Just the body with pickup routes, ebony boarded neck with medium jumbo frets that haven't been finished (hello PLEK) and an uncut bone nut.
Phil is going to work his mojo on it and I can't wait to hear the Caretakers in this baby. :stir
Oh yeah, I have the Marshallheads in my R9, made a big difference over the Burstbuckers. It'll be interesting to hear the differences between these 2 sets.

I have a set of Wolfe's Dr. Vintage in my R7.
Like them very much.
Can you compare them against TimBuckers?

Got a pair of Dr Vs in a cheap (but frightening) Samick SG clone-Mick Taylor/70s' Stones tones for days..Historic killer.
Got a pair of '90s that I'm actually looking for a guitar to put in.
He's that good (and I'm that bad...)

Marshallheads w/A2 mags are my favorite boutique pickups.
