The reviews are OK, not all THAT funny. It's the guitar that's hilarious.
I played one at the Martin booth at Folk Alliance in February. In truth, it was a mediocre guitar. I would not have paid $250 for it.

What makes a new Martin worth $88,000?
Not mocking or making fun. Just wondering.

Click on the D-100 link then look at all of the pictures and the detail of the inlay work, the neck has less than the entire inlayed back of the guitar.
Some of the reviews were pretty funny.

Yes, really. I'm not exaggerating out of disdain. It was, at best, as good as a mediocre assembly line guitar. Not even a "pretty good" assembly line guitar.

Anyone else think it's absurd, bordering on grotesque, or is it just me ? That's just WAAAAAY too busy. I don't doubt it's a tone turd

I saw one of these in a Guitar Center in Scottsdale. I didn't find it visually appealing and with that mmuch inlay I am not surprised it isn't resonant.
I'd rather have a D42 Marquis. Better guitar for playing and don't worry about losing a $80,000 guitar (with discount:crazy )

It was only 250K:JAM It sounded GREAT!!!!!

I saw this one at the NAMM show. The inlay work is very detailed and very well executed, but I have to agree with some of the post above, I thought the design was awful. You guys know me, I like that over the top inlay stuff, but this looks just like lot of inlay for the sake of lot of inlay. No theme, no focus, just lots of shell. Also, it's like a 10k-15K inlay job, so how is that $80k. I don't know. But I wish I had gotten the contract ;)

Musician's Friend? Who in the right mind would buy a $80k guitar through mail order??? :(

I'm surprised that MF put up those reviews as they're obviously jokes. I know that all reviews are looked over by MF prior to them actually going up. Interesting...

So a bunch of inlays makes this guitar worth that much?:NUTS

No kidding. You'd think that if he helped do the inlay work on $100K Martins, he'd invest a little bit in a site that doesn't look like it was made by a high schooler learning to use Microsoft Front Page.

Never underestimate the bad taste of the american public.
The reason the guitar is 100K is not because it is a great guitar but because it is the 1 millioneth guitar that they have produced. It is really designed to be a show piece and not a player.
Martin is always known for their over-the-top ugly inlays and in this they did not disappoint.

Actually it is modeled after the one-millionth guitar.

Garish to the hilt.
Here's the review I submitted. We'll see if they publish it:
This guitar is okay, but it really needs a Steve Vai monkey grip in it. That, and a seventh string. And a Kahler flying trem. And maybe a set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys.
The body's a little thick for serious shredding. And it feeds back like a sumbidge when I crank it through my Mesa Triple Rec.

I really wish Martin would just hold back a bit on these special editions.
As a former Martin retailer I can tell you that they put a fair bit of pressure on you to stock them and they don't always sell that well. Far too many signature models these days too.
Although a number of them are pretty good guitars, very few of them really offer features that are that more desirable as players instruments compared to the (very good) standard and vintage reissue models.

I dunno what all the fuss is about.
I like it.

If they offered a relic'd edition, I'd be all over it.
