I'm looking for a new vocal mic for live use. I may also use it to record guitar cabs. Can anyone describe the differences?

Here's a link from Shure:

The thing is, I've noticed many singers using the SM57 Beta A for vocals. The site lists the SM57 Beta A as an instrument mic and the SM58 Beta A as a vocal mic. Obviously there are more applications than that. I am just curious of your thoughts.

I've always wondered the same thing.

Jamie,
Outside of a Royer 122 ribbon microphone (my current favorite mic now & I have 35 mics FYI) I'd pick up an Audio-Technica ATM29HE and be done with it.
This is one of my first choice dynamic mics or and it walks all over an SM-57 or a Beta 57/58 etc. Much cheaper too!

So you're liking the Royer over the Beyer? I'm not surprised. :BEER
