Will be soon! Getting a MacBook Pro in July as part of my job at the college.... Hoping to pickup a Apogee Mini Me USB and a Neuman LM 103, as well!

I use Logic Pro with a Digi002 and a DigiMax LT. I'm thinking about the Apogee Ensemble... :drool

Exactly... me too..

I saw the Ensemble at NAMM. I'm wondering how that compares to the Rosetta 800?

Logic Pro 7 here. Great software for the most part, but danged if some things aren't just ridiculously over-complicated (at least to my pea brain).

I am using Logic. I like that I can easily move tracks from GarageBand into logic... and I love the electric piano module.

I use logic pro 7.1 (gotta get that 7.2 upgrade...) as well. Love it!

I´ve just got Logic Express.

At the moment I go straight into the audio input of my Mac from an Audio Technica AT822 (battery powered) mic.(I´m recording some classical guitar)
I´ve adjusted the input level to "Max" in the sound preferences, but still I don´t get enough inputsignal... (the mic can´t be any closer)
Isn´t there somewhere to adjust inputgain in Logic as well?

sounds like you need a mic preamp...

I record with Logic 6.3.1 on a Mac G4.

I also have the stereo AT mic. You need a soundcard with preamps!

KungFuLio, what's your take on Logic vs. DP so far?

Suppose you´re right...
Among the plugins there´s a "helper" called "gain". Recording with that one boosted a bit might be an temporary option?

You didn't ask me, but here's my take, having now spent a bit of time with both Logic 7 and DP 5 (I'm a longtime DP user).

Both programs are extremely powerful, with DP having the edge in my opinion for tracking and scoring to picture. However, Logic has the edge in soft synths (Sculpture is really quite cool).

I think the implementation of the studio paradigm in DP is more flexible, and the whole program feels more adaptable to the individual user. The Consolidated Window is brilliant, for example.

Logic seems a little easier on the processors, and it's very pretty to look at. I could live with either program.

Thanks, LS. I'm using Logic now, and am mostly happy with it. I say "mostly" because there are some things that seem more complicated than they have to be. My point of comparison is Pro Tools LE, which I used for a while.

Bottom line, I've gotten over the initial Logic learning curve, and its "workflow" feels natural, if a little illogical, now. The fact that Apple has to keep Logic working with its own OS is a big plus for me--Digidesign would take quite a while to make that happen after a Mac OS update.

I am pretty sure that Logic works with effects the same as GarageBand, and they are for playback only, and do not affect the incoming signal. I do admit that I got used to that in GB, and since moving to LE never tried it, but I have also never heard anyone mention this in the LE7 forums, either, so I have always assumed it was the same as GB.

So far, DP has a better work flow. DP crashes more (none in Logic yet... knock on wood). When DP jumped to OSX, it seemed to be broken and never quite recovered. I recently installed version 5 and it's giving me alot of hope. Editing is easier in DP but ProTools has them both beat in this case. Logic is incredibly configurable, maybe too much. I'd like to get more time to dive into Logic like I have in PT and DP. That break could come in July.

Sonicly, if I'm working native, Logic seems to have a small advantage. I really use PT on a daily basis through Lavry converters and niether DP or Logic come close to the sound.

Bottom Line... I use both DP and Logic for my own amusement. I could use them in the studio, but demand requires PT. Do I care? NO way! They all can sound fabulous with a bit of care. If Nuendo (which I've also learned) Sampletude or what ever program at some point eclipses Digidesign you know I'll be working on it. I'm more interested in working on good music than not working for lacking the correct tools. I'm just a geek that enjoys learning various audio programs.

Enjoy!

So I need yet another gadget then...

Is the Line6 Toneport UX2 a decent device?

Actually, you mention Logic Express--you're right, in Garageband and Logic Express, all effects are playback only.

However, Logic Pro offers a channel type that GB and LE do not, called an "Input Channel" (or "Input Object" for longtime Logic users). If you put an effect on an Input channel, that affect will be printed to disk along with your signal.
